When Tyler Schiller won the TJ Smith on Briasa, he believed The Everest was where he belonged, but he is more confident now with a different, better sprinter heading to Randwick on Saturday.

The late maturing five-year-old has only had the 12 starts and was effectively still learning his craft when he became a Group 1 winner over the Randwick 1200m.

“They went very hard in the TJ Smith, and even though they were going so fast, he still wanted to pull,” Schiller told Betsy.

“The difference about him this time is that he has learned to relax and save a bit of energy, which allows him to much more effective when he let’s go.”

”He’s a different horse this preparation but he’s where he belongs in The Everest and it’s where I thought he would be.”

”He’s actually better equipped to take on these really good sprinters now.”

Schiller took a chance on the Hawkes yard a year ago and decided to focus on trying to ride for them. Briasa is the biggest prize from that decision, but he has also won a Group 1 on Nepotism.

“I went there in the mornings to help out and everything I got seems to go good,” Schiller said.

“I don’t remember Briasa being one of them, but I decided to try to get in there as a regular rider, and it has worked out well.”

Briasa had the Whitby-Werrett slot before starting his spring campaign, so he has been set to peak on Saturday. He was runner-up to Joliestar in The Shorts and then too good in the Premiere Stakes a fortnight ago.

“I had to go a bit too early in The Shorts, but I was still surprised something went past me,” Schiller said.

“The way he travels these days, you really feel his acceleration.”

“It was there the other day and I still think he had something left at the end if he needed it.”

“I don’t get on him between runs but I saw him [on Tuesday] morning and he looks even better again.”

“The way he is now I can use him to take a position without being worried about him overdoing it.”

“If he gets a good spot on Saturday, it is going to take a good one to beat him.”
