Six races. Six wins. Now one of New Zealand’s most exciting young racing talents is ready for her biggest test yet.
Well Written will return to Ellerslie Racecourse this Saturday for the $400,000 Group One Proisir Plate, almost six months after her unforgettable victory in the $4 million NZB Kiwi.
New Zealand has a proud history of producing champions, and Well Written is quickly emerging as the country’s next exciting name.
Her perfect record has already made her one of the brightest young stars in New Zealand sport. Like any elite athlete, her success comes down to natural talent, careful preparation and the ability to perform under pressure.
She showed all three in the 2026 NZB Kiwi.
With another horse, Belle Cheval, closing quickly beside her, Well Written found enough to hold on in a heart-stopping finish. It was her sixth victory from six races and confirmed her status as one of the most exciting horses in the country.
Well Written is trained in Cambridge by Stephen Marsh, who believes she has returned stronger and more mature following her winter break.
This weekend the level of competition is about to take a step up.
The Proisir Plate will be Well Written’s first race against older and more experienced horses at Group One level – the highest standard of Thoroughbred racing.
She races in the green and white colours of global Thoroughbred operation Yulong Investments, whose Head of Racing, New Zealander Danny Rolston, will be at the track to watch her return to racing.
Saturday could also be the start of an international race campaign.
If everything goes to plan, Well Written will travel to Sydney to race before targeting the $10 million Golden Eagle at Randwick on 31 October – one of Australia’s richest races.
First, she must put her unbeaten record on the line at Ellerslie this weekend.
