You could hear the collective groan from the punters around the country. At least the moderate amount that were engaged in Moe on a Thursday.
The filly looked a dead-set moral on paper – Stakes form at Morphettville on debut, a sharp Caulfield trial under the belt, and gun jockey Jamie Melham booked. Punters thought they were putting money in the bank.
Punters didn’t muck around, the filly was crunched from $1.50 in the morning to as short as $1.10-$1.12. Winx-type odds!
But racing’s a cruel game. Zourosa seemingly never handled the bog, she got a saloon passage up the inside coming around the home bend, but her run was short lived, with debutant Lake Gillear able to lead all the way.
The $1.10 pop that “couldn’t lose”? Yeah, it lost.
