Chris Waller’s grip on the Caulfield Guineas has tightened once again. The champion trainer not only saddled last year’s winner in Private Life but returns this spring with the top two in betting, Autumn Boy and Wodeton, as he looks to go back-to-back in one of Australia’s premier three-year-old races.
Waller holds a formidable hand in this year’s Guineas. Autumn Boy, who endured a luckless run in the Golden Rose, boasts the ratings profile and scope of a typical Guineas winner, and is a colt capable of improving sharply out to the mile. He’s the current $4.20 second elect in the race with Damian Lane – who won aboard Private Life for Waller last year – set to ride from the inside draw.

The Golden Rose goes to Godolphin, but it’s the colt who wins it! Adam Hyeronimus with a perfect frontrunning ride 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/BY97G30rmT

Alongside him is Wodeton, a proven performer at the top level and runner-up in both the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose, who appears to be trending perfectly towards a peak performance at Caulfield. Wodeton made a big impression on debut when winning a 2YO race by some four lengths, but despite going close he has been winless in seven subsequent starts. The Coolmore colt will be ridden by leading jockey James McDonald, who has won the Guineas three times, including aboard The Autumn Sun for Waller in 2018.
The pair have rightfully assumed control of the market, giving Waller a genuine chance of claiming his fourth Caulfield Guineas.
To mark Waller’s twin assault, BaggyBet are offering an enhanced $4.50 for any of his runners to win the Caulfield Guineas (max bet $10). Given their current prices of $3.70 and $4.20, it’s a great offer for punters backing the champion trainer to extend his recent dominance over the spring carnival.
