It’s a decent card at Sandown Park on Thursday night considering the bulk of Victorian’s best greyhounds are currently contesting in the Australian Cup Carnival at The Meadows. Arguably the biggest attraction within the meeting is young gun Extreme Grunt in Race 9, who was a fast winner at the track two weeks ago. George Farrugia has cast his eye over the meeting and fancies a few.

Race previews
Race 3:
Ethanol Secret (box two) was outclassed in a heat of the Australian Cup but finds a much more suitable race here. He does his best racing from inside draws and his win at The Meadows three starts back was outstanding. If he runs up to his PB here he’ll be hard to catch.
Selections: 2. Ethanol Secret
Race 4:
Engelke Road (box four) has raced against some of the best stayers in the country and the drop in class here cannot be underestimated. He can sit close to the pace and he should be very hard to hard out from there. Charlestown has raced well over 600 metres and will give them something to chase, but the last 100 metres is the concern.
Selections: 4. Engelke Road, 1. Charlestown (place)
Race 6:
Champagne Cuddle (box one) gets as big a chance as he’s had in a while from the perfect draw in this event. He’s been racing consistently without a win of late but his record off the rails and his good PB here should hold him in good stead. Kiwi George (box eight) is an emerging type and can’t be dismissed.
Selections: 1. Champagne Cuddle, 8. Kiwi George
Race 8:
Hot Nanu (box three) is a quality sprinter with a great turn of foot and he is another who finds himself dropping in class. He should get a nice run from the draw. Doongalla Don (box five) raced superbly in January and if he gets back to that form he will be right in the mix.
Selections: 3. Hot Nanu, 5. Doongalla Don
Race 12:
Paw Matic (box one) has started her career with some quality wins, including a solid 29.53 Sandown win on January 22. She seems to be a very reliable beginner and she can lead from go to whoa.
Selections: 1. Paw Matic
