Gibbo’s Blackbook: Eagle Farm runners to follow

The track improved through the day at Eagle Farm and a couple of runs were better than they first appeared on paper.

The Eagle Farm surface dried out as the meeting went on and, looking back, it was a stronger card than I initially gave it credit for. A couple of horses came out of it with real merit.

Race 1 – Cabaletto

The sectionals say they didn’t go as hard early as it looked, but I’m trusting the eye test here.

Swoopers dominated late, which can happen when they overdo it in front, but Cabaletto kept finding under pressure and never shirked the task. He’ll take good improvement out of that run and can strip noticeably fitter next time.

With natural improvement and a slightly kinder setup, he’s the type that can give us a collect at his next start.

Race 2 – Prochester

This was a proper tough effort.

He was wide throughout, albeit with some cover, and then made his move before the corner — never easy at Eagle Farm. Despite that early exertion, he stuck on strongly through the line.

He doesn’t boast a big strike rate, but that run should top him off nicely for the new stable. He looks ready to win when he finds the right race.
