The failure of Australiasian Oaks favourite, Getta Good Feeling, in the Spring last year shouldn’t deter punters from backing her on Saturday, trainer Danny O’Brien believes.
The filly was the red-hot favourite for the VRC Oaks at Flemington, only to fail to fire, finishing a disappointing sixth.
But she stunned on her 2026 return, however, winning the Inglis Sprint over 1200m then backing that up to win the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at Caulfield over the 1600m. The filly also had a jump out over the 1000m last week at Geelong.
O’Brien said he put his runner’s Oaks failure down to the distance, 2500m, and believes his highly rated 3-year-old would be better suited to the 2000m on Saturday at Morphetville.
Billy Egan has the ride, where he will chase his third Group 1.
”Look, we’re hopeful after the spring. We didn’t think she really saw out the 2500m on VRC Oaks Day. It became a very strong staying test that day, and just found out for stamina inside the last 150m,’’ O’Brien told SEN Track.
‘’We decided that we’d stay away from Sydney and concentrate on Adelaide and Brisbane. Her two runs have been excellent. She won that first up at 1200m.
‘’She went straight to the mile and won easily, giving weight away. This has always been her target, third up, and everything’s gone to plan. So hopefully she can get the job done.’’
It’s easy to Getta Good Feeling watching this girl ❤️🤍

O’Brien said he was happy with how Getta Good Feeling has drawn with barrier 5.
‘’Look, I’ll take that barrier every day of the week,’’ O’Brien said, adding he expects the race to plenty of pace early.
‘’It just hopefully means that we can get a nice spot in the. First two or three pairs, you know, not get behind too many of them. She set out to the leader in the Wakeful and was very dominant that day … it looks like she maps to have no excuses.
‘’ I would be surprised if it’s not a genuinely run enough race. There is a couple of fillies drawn out wide that probably have to press on. And we’ll end up making it a reasonable enough gallop, so … it’ll be genuinely enough run, but we should get a nice spot in running.
‘’And our filly’s got a really good change- up speed where she does. Quick and inside the last two or three hundred, she can make up lengths and get the job done wherever she sells.’’
