There are few things Shaun Beirne enjoys more than taking on a short-priced favourite and the Bet Legends founder already has one of Queensland’s biggest races circled.
While much of the racing world is preparing to rally behind Pride Of Jenni in the Doomben Cup, Beirne is preparing to go the other way.
“Once bitten, twice as stupid,” Beirne joked.
“We’re very keen to take her on at 2200m. Can’t wait to get amongst it once the markets are fully up later this afternoon.”
A major Bet Legends special is expected around the race, with Beirne adamant the step to 2200m opens the door for rivals to capitalise.
Before then, Beirne has identified a pair of runners at Warwick Farm and Caulfield that he believes the market may have slightly misread.
Warwick Farm Race 6
At Warwick Farm, he expects punters to warm to Glorious Moments and believes the gelding has more upside than rival Confidentiality despite the latter holding the fitness edge.
“Confidentiality has the fitness on his side, but in what looks a two-horse race, I think Glorious Moments has more upside,” Beirne said.
“His figures from last prep were strong and that trial two back really caught the eye.”
“I thought the tick-over trial five days ago was exactly what you wanted to see. I’d expect the market to head his way.”
Caulfield Heath Race 6
At Caulfield, Beirne is happy to oppose Price Tag despite the horse resuming with a win.
“She won first-up and there’s definitely talent there,” he said.
“The spike in ratings through the first few starts was excellent, but I thought the last three runs were only fair.”
“At the sort of price the market is likely to frame, I’m happy to take her on.”
