967/1 Multi among TAB’s biggest results of the weekend

TAB customers landed some eye-catching weekend collects, including a 967/1 multi and a $22,550 double featuring two roughies.

While TAB traders managed to dodge some of the major liabilities across the weekend, a handful of punters still managed to land eye-catching collects.

The biggest individual win came at Caulfield on Saturday, where one customer backed Simurgh to take out Race 6. Sent around a $2.30 chance, the gelding got the job done and delivered a return of almost $48,000.

While sizeable single-race wins always attract attention, it was the multi punters who produced some of the weekend’s most impressive results.

One TAB customer turned a $10 investment into $9,684 by successfully linking together four winners at Sandown on Sunday.

The multi started with Mr Waterville ($2.90) before Sing For Peace ($3.30) and Straand Deal ($4.40) kept the ticket alive. That left outsider Red On Red as the final leg and, when the roughie saluted at odds of $23, the punter completed a remarkable 967/1 play.

Turning $10 into almost $10,000 is the sort of result that keeps punters coming back, with Red On Red’s upset victory proving the difference between a handy collect and a memorable payday.

As good as that result was, it wasn’t the biggest multi collect of the weekend.

That honour belonged to a TAB customer who paired two double-figure winners from Queensland and Sydney. The bet started with Savagery Vibe, who stunned punters when saluting at $41 in the final race at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

With the first leg safely in the bank, attention then turned to the last race at Rosehill where Stardeel completed the job at odds of $11.

The result was a combined dividend of $451 and a collect of $22,550.

Given both legs came up in the final races at Eagle Farm and Rosehill, it would have been a pretty exciting way to finish the day. Whether it was rescuing a tough afternoon or topping up an already profitable one, there’s nothing quite like heading into the final races with a live ticket at those sorts of odds.

Hopefully the punter enjoyed an even bigger Saturday night after banking a $22,550 collect.

While favourites and heavily-backed runners often dominate the attention of bookmakers and punters alike, weekends like this are a reminder that racing’s biggest collects can come from the horses few are prepared to back.
