HEAD TO THE BETSY TIPPING HUB FOR THE FULL PREVIEW
Turf Talk:
- Rail goes back to the true having been out 8m, 5m and 3m at the most recent meetings. That means the inside section of the track should be nice fresh ground.
- Mornington is a tight-turning track with an uphill run to the judge. It is a momentum track where backmarkers need to get on their bike well before the straight to get into a race. It’s a horses-for-courses track, which some don’t handle.
- Track comes up a Heavy 8 and improvement over the past few days has been slow.
- Track was a Soft 5 at the most recent meeting but raced as a Heavy 8, so treading carefully re: how wet it might be.
- Beautiful day forecast. Light winds.
- Expecting horses on speed to have an edge, but treading carefully with all MRC tracks at the moment.
Key Stats:
- Trainer Graeme Begg is going at 22% from his last 100 runners. Forever a stable in form!
- Local trainer Vin Hall has a 29.4% strike rate here at Mornington with a whopping 276% PoT (small sample size).
- Jordan Childs and Billy Egan are the form hoops, both going at 20% their last 100 at a solid PoT.
- Star jockey Mark Zahra has ridden just 8 winners from his last 100 rides at a PoT of -53.3%. He has a great book of rides today as he looks to turn that around.
