Shaun Beirne has found one favourite he thinks is under the odds on Darwin Cup Day, while he’s happy to sit back and let punters make up their own minds in the feature itself.
Race 7 – Montjuic Magic
Montjuic Magic has been installed as a clear favourite, but Shaun thinks the market has overreacted and is happy to oppose the short quote.
“When you line the form up, I don’t think there should be the gap in the market between Montjuic Magic and Auxiliary,” Beirne said.
“Auxiliary brought stronger figures out of Victoria and then produced a better rating winning in Darwin than Montjuic Magic has managed.”
“At the current prices, I think Montjuic Magic is simply too short.”

Darwin Cup – Race 9
The Darwin Cup is one of the great races of the Northern Territory carnival, but Shaun is happy to keep his powder dry.
“History tells us it’s incredibly difficult for the three-year-old Derby winner to back up and win the Darwin Cup, even though they invariably attract plenty of market support.”
“The Northern Territory Derby wasn’t rated particularly highly this year when compared to previous renewals, including Ventilago, who was the last horse to complete the Triple Crown.”
“If I had to lean one way, Stormageddon looks the more likely winner, but from a betting perspective I’m happy to stay out.”
“We’ll let the punters decide this one.”
