Speed is modest. (2) AIR DANCER leads as he did at Awapuni and was weak in the concluding stages, to his outside is (8) ROSINA, the 7YO mare saves her best for this course and distance and hit the line nicely at Cambridge with blinkers added last start, she is fortunate to find a lowly Rating 65 contest at her favourite track and gets a smart claim 2kg under the minimum. Doubt she will find a better opportunity at Rating 65 level.

Expecting a good tempo setting up for something to swoop late as the speed runners are vulnerable late. One at odds willing to forgive her debut is (10) WANT MORE impressed at the trial stage but a little disappointing at Ruakaka, she was soft in betting and never a factor but the race was run fast and the winner has since won again. Sam Collett sticks with the Super Seth mare and expecting further fitness improvement, a winning chance in a moderate maiden. Rated Top 3 chance and over the odds.

The tempo is fast early. (5) CAPE REINGA is a natural runner, the 4YO gelding by Tassort and has been winning his trials with consumate ease, he’s professional and has the booking of Michael McNab having ridden the gelding his past two recent trials, the latest he travelled sweet on the bridle and when McNab asked for an effort there was plenty of give which sets up him for a winning debut. He will receive pressure from (4) SUAVE coming across from a wide gate, and has the impressive trialist (10) LEVARTI in behind them, she’s a well-bred filly lining up for an astute first-up stable, may find these too quick at 100m.

Feature race on the card. This race sets up perfectly for the resuming MISS JANET, a speedy Home Affairs filly ideally-suited at 1100m and advantaged by this tight turning track where she can use her best asset. A stakes winner at start two where she enjoyed the run of the race dictating off the front at Ellerslie, this looks a similar race on paper with the majority of the speed scratched this morning. From the inside draw, she’s top pick and hardest to beat from (9) POUNCE a potential star in the making, caught the eye with a smart trial ridden quiet, she’ll be charging late.
