Take Us On: Shaun Beirne takes aim at two vulnerable favourites at Bendigo

Bet Legends' Shaun Beirne believes the market has got it wrong in two races, including a favourite he rates as low as fifth pick.

The market has settled on a couple of clear favourites later in the day at Bendigo, but Bet Legends’ Shaun Beirne isn’t convinced punters have got it right.

This week’s Take Us On has Beirne looking to oppose Always Enuff in Race 7, while Zebra Finch comes under the microscope in Race 8.

Race 7: Always Enuff

Always Enuff heads the market, but Beirne’s ratings paint a very different picture of the race.

The market support appears to be largely built around a peak performance at Listed level at Caulfield last preparation, rather than the broader body of form.

Beirne believes there are several runners with stronger claims and is happy to oppose Always Enuff at the top of betting.

“The market looks incorrect to have Always Enuff favourite. On some of my markers I have it as far down as fifth pick.”

Race 8: Zebra Finch

Zebra Finch won two starts ago and did what was required in a four-horse field, but the strength of that performance is questionable.

It was a race that developed into little more than a non-contest, with Zebra Finch only producing around what the market expected despite getting the job done comfortably.

Across the rest of the preparation, the figures haven’t been nearly as flattering, with the gelding falling more than a length below market expectation in all but one other run.

The map should give Zebra Finch every opportunity, but Beirne believes he’ll need those favours to justify his position in betting.

“He maps well, but he’s going to need every bit of that soft run to help him. His performances throughout the preparation haven’t consistently matched what the market has expected.”
