Bet Legends analyst Shaun Beirne is back looking to get stuck into the Saturday favourites, with two Rosehill races firmly on his radar before a fascinating Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.
There are a couple at Rosehill he believes the market has simply gone too short on, while the Memsie presents as a genuine bookies’ race where Beirne is happy to take on a number of runners.
Rosehill Race 6: Take on the two favourites
Beirne is happy to oppose both She’s An Artist and Street Artist at their current prices.
She’s An Artist goes well fresh and returns after an acceptable jump-out, but Beirne believes the market is already giving her plenty of credit for that profile.
“She’s An Artist has the two-from-two first-up record, but even allowing for that I can’t get her any shorter than $5,” Beirne said.
“She’s yet to rate within 2.5 lengths of the peak she produced up the Flemington straight as a three-year-old, so at the current price she effectively needs to produce a new personal best.”
Street Artist disappointed Beirne last start and, while he felt there were excuses in defeat, he isn’t prepared to follow up at the shorter quote on Saturday.
“I thought Street Artist would win last time and he ran well enough considering I thought the ride was questionable,” he said.
“The concern here is the map. He could be caught wide and there should be enough speed in the race to make that problematic.
“He’s also now gone six starts without winning and has performed below market expectation in each of those runs. He can certainly win, but I think the market has overreacted.”

Rosehill Race 10: Amazing Eagle
Amazing Eagle steps to 1200m for the first time this preparation and Beirne believes there are enough questions around his set-up to warrant taking him on.
His racing pattern has been anything but predictable this campaign, while his tendency to be tardy from the barriers could leave him needing plenty to go right.
“I’m not completely convinced about Amazing Eagle at 1200m and we haven’t really known where he’s going to settle from one start to the next,” Beirne said.
“He’s stepped slowly at each of his past five starts. If he does that again, there’s a scenario where he ends up back on the fence and in a potentially awkward position.
“He’s going to need things to fall his way, and I’m happy to make him earn it.”

Caulfield Race 8: Memsie Stakes
The Group 1 Memsie Stakes is a very different proposition.
Beirne initially thought Jimmysstar looked short in early markets, but an outstanding trial has made him reluctant to take a strong position against the favourite.
“I thought Jimmysstar was short, but he’s trialled like a rocket and the map looks suitable enough,” Beirne said.
“He’s going to be hard to beat and I expect there will be money for him, so there’s no real need to push too hard there.”
Cosmic Crusader is another Beirne finds difficult to knock, particularly if connections use the gelding’s wide draw and roll forward.
“Cosmic Crusader looks somewhat bulletproof at the moment. You’d assume they go forward and make use of him, and he’s very hard to find a significant negative for.”
But in a deep Group 1, Beirne believes there are opportunities elsewhere in the market.
“Treasurethe Moment and Angel Capital both look under the odds to me, while Beiwacht is going to give them something serious to catch if he gets control up front,” he said.
“It’s a proper bookies’ race. Open the bag and lay them all.”
