Can Tempted win The Everest?

Can Tempted win The Everest?

Racelab: $19 chance can conquer Everest

The Racelab team have crunched the numbers and believe Tempted can take it up to the HK superstar in The Everest

All the talk has been about Ka Ying Rising, but after his indifferent trial last week he is getting shaky in betting.

If he turns up at his best, we think he will brain them.

But, this is still a horse race – a bloody good horse race – with quality across the Everest field. And punting is all about trying to find value.

The Racelab ratings suggest the job for a three-year-old filly in The Everest will take a 104.6 – only 0.6 lengths higher than the market perception rating from the Golden Rose, where Tempted went around a $3.40 favourite.

That narrow gap paints a clear picture: she doesn’t need to find much to be right in the finish.

Track & Tempo

Tempted is perfectly placed for the challenge. She’s two-from-two over the Randwick 1200m, and the projected tempo doesn’t appear to be above average. With no weight, she can settle midfield and blend into the race rather than being forced to chase a hot speed.

The booking of Craig Williams is another tick. Given her light impost, there weren’t many elite senior options available, and Williams’ tactical nous should suit her racing style.

Ratings Profile & Comparisons

The Racelab model shows Tempted’s current peak sits just shy of what’s historically required to be competitive in The Everest – but it’s within striking range.

For reference, Lady Of Camelot ran fourth in the race last year off a similar profile. The difference? Tempted brings a stronger turn of foot and arguably more upside heading into the race.

That’s backed by the Golden Rose form, which continues to stack up. The winner Beiwacht produced a huge 108 RaceLab rating, while Autumn Boy came out and won the Caulfield Guineas, adding further depth to the form.

The 3yo factor

In the short history of the race, it’s not uncharted territory for the age group to win an Everest. Yes Yes Yes famously won The Everest as a three-year-old, Giga Kick followed the same path, while Cylinder ran very well for the Blue Army. The blueprint is proven – the right 3YO, on the right day, can win it.

The Verdict

According to Racelab, the 104.6 benchmark is within reach. With Randwick 1200m form, no weight, and Craig Williams aboard, Tempted doesn’t need to improve much to make Everest history.

If she can reproduce or slightly elevate on her Golden Rose figure, she’s every chance to join the list of 3YO stars who’ve made The Everest their coming-of-age moment.

Tempting at $19? Yes, please.

The Racelab team will have their full ratings and final thoughts on the race later in the week.
