Young gun Zac Lloyd is set for an extended stint on the sidelines after recieving multiple suspensions for two rides on Thursday following his heroics to win his first Melbourne Group 1.
Lloyd – who won the VRC Oaks onboard Proxima Dea – will miss a total of 21 meetings across more than two weeks following multiple charges for careless riding.
The first of his suspensions came in race 1 aboard eventual winner Chiringita.
‘’Rider Zac Lloyd (Chiringita [GB]) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR 131(a), in that near the 150 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of Bon Fete which was steadied to avoid the heels of Chiringita (GB),’’ according to the Racing Victoria stewards report released on Thursday.
‘’Zac Lloyd had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 9 race meetings, with the period to commence on Sunday 8 November 2026 and expire on Sunday 15 November 2026.
In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and that the incident was in the low range.’’
His second suspension came in the second race onboard runner-up, Alabama Fox.
‘’Rider Zac Lloyd (Alabama Fox) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR 131(a), in that near the 1200 metres, he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Bustling, which was crowded and taken in onto Chakado, which in turn was steadied and crowded for room and taken in onto Kahhof, which was tightened onto Spirit Of Wealth, which was also tightened for room and made contact with the running rail, the stewards’ report said.
‘’Zac Lloyd had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 12 race meetings, with the period to commence on Monday 16 November 2026, at the expiration of the suspension incurred in Race 1 and expire at the conclusion of the day meeting on Friday 27 November 2026. Accordingly, Zac Lloyd will be able to ride at the night meeting on Friday 27 November 2026. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and that the incident was in the mid-range.’’
Fellow Group 1 winning jockey Jamie Mott was also suspended for excessive whip use.
”Rider Jamie Mott (Perilous Fighter) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip two times more than permitted prior to the 100m,’’ the stewards’ report said.
‘’Jamie Mott had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 7 race meetings, with the period to commence on Sunday 8 November 2026 and expire on Friday 13 November 2026. Accordingly, Jamie Mott will be able to return to ride on Saturday 14 November 2026. Jamie Mott was also fined $500.
