Controversial jockey Noel Callow is facing fresh charges from Queensland stewards following the emergence of a yet another video in which he allegedly uses a racial slur.
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) confirmed this week that Callow has been charged under AR 228(a), relating to conduct deemed prejudicial to the image and integrity of racing.
The charge follows the discovery of another street-recorded video in which Callow is alleged to have made racially offensive comments.
Although Callow is not visible in the footage, stewards allege that it is his voice heard in the recording. The incident is believed to have occurred in Darwin, Racenet reported.
Callow has pleaded guilty to the new charge, and the matter has been adjourned as stewards deliberate on an appropriate penalty.
The new charge adds to Callow’s ongoing disciplinary record. Earlier this year, he was disqualified for 10 months over two earlier videos featuring racially charged language.
During an earlier appeal of the 10-month disqualification, Callow told the board he had completed a cultural awareness course and spoken with former AFL star Michael O’Loughlin, which he said helped him understand the impact of his language. He also admitted to previously being a “functioning alcoholic”.
