Her father dominated the Warrnambool carnival for years and now it is Taige Weir’s turn.

Darren Weir, of course, won many, many Warrnambool races [plus countless Group 1s] before his ban from the sport.

On Wednesday the promising young trainer with four career wins, Taige’s runner Kings Reflection broke through late to claim race 3 at the ‘Bool, with her partner Will Gordon onboard.

An emotional Weir was ecstatic, shedding tears as she comprehended the win.

”That is just amazing. Oh God, this horse is so special. I just love him so much,” she said.

”Will, What a peach of a ride and Steve and Alan Marsden and their families for allowing me to train these horses. It’s just amazing.

”He’s just got some ability his horse and he’s still very green. He’s still very much so learning his craft … it’s just amazing. And Will, that was just an amazing ride. And I didn’t think he was going to get out and he did. And oh, far out, it was amazing.”

Weir revealed her extended family had made the trip to watch and that her famous dad would meet them for a celebratory dinner.

”He is coming down tonight for dinner so he better pay tonight!,” she said.

”This is this is just amazing. The support we’ve gotten so early in my career and my family, like I’m it’s just amazing. I’m so grateful. It’s the best.

”There’s just so many people, a lot of my family are here today. Two of my aunties that have never been to the races before are here today, and they’re having an absolute whale of a time. So it’s great.”

Taige said she planned to party tonight, after a trip to the greyhound track first.

”First of all, I’ve got to go the dogs and support my cousin Dane who’s calling the dogs tonight. So anyone that’s going to the dogs tonight, just support Dane then we can go at the Whalers.”
