Race 2 – 1:35PM Sandhurst Stockfeeds Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
#3 I AM ARIA going around a prohibitively short favourite here resuming after a Blue Diamond campaign. It’s easy to see why the market loves her: she has form around the best 2yo’s, she has trialled well and she’s drawn to get a lovely run on speed. All things being equal, she’s the horse to beat, but hard to get her anywhere near the $1.15 on offer.
The filly that really interests is #4 LADY MOLLY. This Peter Burgun-trained daughter of Prized Icon recently had two trials in a week, at Seymour and then Albury. She showed good gate speed in each, going on to win them both comfortably. Although it’s hard to tell in trials as they aren’t let off the bit, she seemed to skip through the heavy 10 OK at Albury on July 27. Like the booking of Harry Coffey, who should be able to find the front, or worst case settle in the first two or three. With the rail back to the true, expect that inside section to hold up early in the day.
Concede it will be hard to knock off the fave, and it’s a shame there’s only two dividends after scratchings, but having something E/W Lady Molly at $26.
Suggested bet: #4 LADY MOLLY 1×4 EW
