| Race | Horse | Summary |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | #1 Brave Monarch | Good through line last start and stable airborne. |
| 6 | #1 Koruto | $34 but this race is hopeless and should probably be half that. |
Turf Talk
- Rail 1m
- The days of trusting any weather station are over so goodness knows what we get. Humid, warm weather with chance of thunderstorms each day doesn’t really give us a guide.
- Likely to use most of the track.
The Stats That Matter
- Haven’t got the stats but Liam Birchley is simply the king of 2 year old races in Qld. Again last week, his was $13 into $4 and bolted in. Watch out in the first.
- Nice to see M.Rodd back. From his 27 rides this season he has 5 winners and +16% ROI. Has a couple of good rides again this weekend.
Race 1
Always love the 2 year olds having race experience. (1) Rarotonga was a nice effort on debut and best L200m of the race. Sure to be improved off the day at the track and Rodd sticks on top.
They smashed a Birchley debutant last week and his horse here (6) Vanzadee beat last week’s winner in a trial. He’s the king of 2 year olds in Qld and watch market again.
(5) Scartoon was a nice enough trial but we sound like a broken record, market tells the story every time in Qld with 2 year olds.
Selections:
(1) Rarotonga
(6) Vandazee
(5) Scartoon
(7) Leaves Of Lorien
Suggested Bet: Win (1) Rarotonga
Race 2
I’d be keen on (4) Ten Good Reasons if I’d seen recent trials. Nothing official so we need to watch the market. Thought the last prep was very good and no reason why he doesn’t improve this time in. Won or placed in 6 of 7 and likes EF.
I think (5) Hearts Are Better has ability but can be weak late in races. Trials have been good though and in good stable. (6) Zoubaby has the class to win but has been getting smacked in Sydney. Wins or runs last, probably.
(2) Negotiations and (8) All Too Wild in good stables and just follow market in this race to be honest.
Selections:
(4) Ten Good Reasons
(5) Hearts Are Better
(6) Zoubaby
(2) Negotiations
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 3
Yay, the Qld staying race (said nobody ever)
(4) Connecticut brings the best form and even though he doesn’t win many, he was a nice winner last time out. Likes to land midfield and gate 1 can help his cause if the rain stays away. The one to beat.
Like the build up from (5) La Cometa. She is a genuine stayer and has improved each run lately. Poor record at the track is my main concern. Hard to knock (6) Kaluakoi since joining Munce. Had the four runs for them and hasn’t been worse than 4th. Pushes forward from the bad gate and lands on speed.
Selections:
(4) Connecticut
(5) La Cometa
(6) Kaluakoi
Suggested Bet: Win bet (4) Connecticut
Race 4
(14) Amahni’s Girl and (5) Sunlord should set an even or better tempo to give them all a chance.
(12) Dushenka had every possible chance last start and not good enough. Takes on the older horses in a harder race now. Feel they rode upside down and too close there. Could go back and flash late here.
(5) Sunlord just keeps running well. Races on speed and continues to give a kick. (3) Mazis went over the line with that horse last start and should have more improvement to come. Is a better horse this prep and well placed. (6) Sun Worshipper the best roughie, 3rd up, loses apprentice for senior and can improve sharply.
Selections:
(3) Mazis
(5) Sunlord
(12) Dushenka
(6) Sun Worshipper
Suggested Bet: Trifecta 3 – 4,5,6,12 – 4,5,6,12
Race 5
Extremely weak 3 year old race.
Looked a race in two and PROVOKER has come out.
Similar story (1) Brave Monarch. Has got back but attacked line in both runs and good win last start. Stable flying, good jock and this trip should suit.
Maybe (2) Meet George and (8) Carbonara are next best but they are just a limited bunch.
Not a great preview of the race but can’t find much nice to say about any of these bar the topweight.
Selections:
(1) Brave Monarch
(2) Meet George
(8) Carbonara
Suggested Bet: Win bet (1) Brave Monarch
Race 6
What a plain bunch of animals.
(14) Araletta is the one who can be on speed and look the winner. Not the strongest horse late and that’s a pet hate of mine.
Well, (1) Koruto has a poor fresh record (6:0:0:1). Trial was just fair. Had 180 days off and is a rising 9 year old and I think I’ll land on him. At least I know he’s a decent horse and better than these if things pan out. Claim helps and can be strong late.
Gollan has (9) Zou Big Boy but may need rain? Clearly looks a wet tracker to me.
(5) Larrikin Rogue might be next best.
Selections:
(1) Koruto
(14) Araletta
(5) Larrikin Rogue
(9) Zou Big Boy
Suggested Bet: small win (1) Koruto at big odds
Race 7
Gollan with a massive hand in this and nearly half the field.
(3) Midnight Spirit was in good races last prep and did like the recent trial. Feel it will be an improver and stronger this prep. Don’t love the gate, over to you Maloney.
The toppy (1) Torque To Be Sure is well above average and has trialled well multiple times leading into this. Might get back but has a good turn of foot and winning chance for sure.
(10) Spirit Of Barty was just a maiden winner last start but was held up before bursting through to win easily. Has a lot of upside and Gollan will get the best out of her.
Selections:
(3) Midnight Spirit
(1) Torque To Be Sure
(10) Spirit Of Barty
(6) Forgotten Spirit
Suggested Bet: small bet (3) Midnight Spirit at $9
Race 8
Well 1000m is not the go for (1) Cifrado but he’s so much better than this lot on his day, he’d still win. Had a couple of runs back, just pass marks but they have to come out positive and try to land in front of 4-5 here. If he trucks into it, he can run over them.
(9) Holy Racket is a genuine 1000m horse who can be on speed and has 52kg. If they don’t go too hard it will be very hard to run down for a stable going well.
(6) Hurts So Good likes this trip but needs the speed on. Has won 4 of 6 at this track and that is the key stat, as many don’t appreciate it.
Selections:
(1) Cifrado
(9) Holy Racket
(6) Hurts So Good
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 9
Three horses first up and not a last start winner in the field. This is embarrassing stuff.
I’d stick a rocket up (8) Canberra Legend before the corner and make a few of these work for it. Liked the effort over 1800m here last start behind one in form. Use the fitness level to your advantage.
(9) Exceed Speed is the most consistent of these and just hit the front a bit soon at Toowoomba. Month between runs and he can map on speed to get every possible chance. If they leave him alone, he’s the one to beat.
I’ve always loved (6) Viminele but had a gutful now, just got too many tricks. This is right up his alley, not beaten far on this track last start and best form would win it. (7) Naval Seal has returned well this prep with a win and placing. Fitter from them, Maloney rides and has run well here, but up in grade.
I’d say (5) Cunnamulla Fella could win on best but they have just taught him to go back and follow them around these days.
Selections:
(8) Canberra Legend
(9) Exceed Speed
(6) Viminele
(5) Cunnamulla Fella
Suggested Bet: Win bet (8) Canberra Legend, save (9) Exceed Speed
Race 10
A lot of these mix their form and a few trust issues for me.
(8) Hidden Melody has won 4 of her last five but this is harder, apprentice and 1200m not her fave, happy to take her on.
(10) Cosmo Centaurus promised to be a very good one but was plain last prep. Got the run of the race fresh and put them away easily. This prep might be the making of him. Two runs here were poor? Was just in plain form at the time or not an EF horse?
(15) Surprise Honey was runner up to that horse and can push forward from a wide draw and be in this for a while.
(3) Bews was good fresh and could land in exotics. Key to (13) Pareto is a softer track and this might suit.
Selections:
(10) Cosmo Centaurus
(15) Surprise Honey
(3) Bews
Suggested Bet: (10) Cosmo Centaurus if $2.50
