Shaun Beirne is happy to stand against a pair of well-backed runners at Randwick on Saturday, with both presenting as risks at their current prices.
The Bet Legends approach remains simple. Find where the market may have gone too far and look to oppose.
Randwick Race 2 – Enamorada
Enamorada ($3) is already a major talking point with plenty of multis building through it and more expected late.
From Beirne’s side of the fence, that brings exposure.
“It’s a big liability for us. Customers have taken multis through whatever they could into it and there’s more to come. I’ll have to go to the line with it.”
Despite that, he is not convinced the profile matches the price.
“There’s scope there, no doubt, but the map is a query and the ratings just aren’t there yet to justify where it sits in the market.”
There is also a layer of uncertainty around the rider engagement, which adds to the risk profile.
“Even the jockey booking (Adam Farragher) raises a question.”
Beirne is comfortable taking it on.
Randwick Race 8 – Nobler
The last start performance offered little and came without excuses.
“Very plain last start and had every chance. That’s only the first concern.”
When assessed against what is required to win this race, the figures fall short.
“The German personal best just isn’t in the same zone as what’s needed here. It has to find three or four lengths.”
The likely settling position does not help either.
“It looks buried back on the fence from the map, which makes the job even harder.”
Beirne and Bet Legends are keen to take Nobler on at the $3.60. In fact, he’s so keen to take Nobler on that you can get $4 about him running first or second!
