Every Saturday, Bet Legends’ Shaun Beirne identifies the runners he’s prepared to oppose, looking for favourites he believes are under the odds.
This week, he’s taking on a pair of well-fancied gallopers at Sunshine Coast and Rosehill.
And, as always, he’s putting his money where his mouth is with a cracking special. Also, expect Bet Legends to be ‘top odds’ both runners.
Sunshine Coast – Winx Guineas
Test The Law drops back in grade for the Winx Guineas, but Shaun isn’t convinced the setup is as favourable as the market suggests.
“He backs up seven days after a run where he was never really given much hope, and I think he’s going to face a very similar scenario again,” Beirne said.
“I can see him settling back and covering ground from a wide run, which is never ideal around the Sunshine Coast.”
While the class relief is obvious, Shaun believes the market has underestimated the task ahead.
“Back in grade is a positive, but I think he’s going to have to do plenty of work to win this race. At the current price, I’m happy to be against him.”

Rosehill – Race 6
Polyglot has been one of the more popular runners on the Rosehill program after an eye-catching first-up performance, but Shaun isn’t prepared to follow the market.
“I thought he had excuses first-up and probably had a bit of bad luck, but he’s still going to need to improve again to beat this field,” Beirne said.
“The bigger concern for me is the race shape. I think the horses settling on speed get every chance, while Polyglot is likely to be spotting them a start.”
Shaun believes that makes him vulnerable despite his obvious talent.
“He’s a good horse, but I just think he’ll need everything to go right from back in the field. I’d rather be with something that’s going to race much closer to the speed.”
