Turf Talk
- Rail 9m
- Rain Monday but a drying track and a chance of being firm late in the afternoon Wednesday. Always a positive when horses have won on this surface.
The Stats That Matter
- Here comes Gollan. He’s had 14 winners from his last 50 and a couple at the metropolitan meeting on Saturday.
- Jockey Maloney keeps his run going striking at the same %. 14 winners from his last 50 and riding in good style.
Race 1
Not sure what to do with (1) Lantau Island. Showed ability last prep but fair to say was plain first up. Maloney/Gollan combo is flying so have to show some respect.
(2) The Pool Boy was a winner on debut and tipped straight out. I love that set up and has won his most recent trial and looks ready to return.
(7) Amosu won a feature race on debut but placed out of her class last prep. She does have ability and placed better here.
I’ve always liked (5) Oohlalouvre but nearly had enough now. Has ability, but one win from eleven is not ideal. (3) Ceekay’s Choice is no star but has been good this prep and could land around the money somewhere.
Selections:
(2) The Pool Boy
(7) Amosu
(5) Oohlalouvre
(1) Lantau Island
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 2
(3) Heesen has won 2 of 4 for Freedman and her best is better than these. Not sure what the fresh run was about, well beaten but this is a heck of a lot easier and market might be the best guide.
There are a few others who are consistent but not stars. (5) Anarita was 3rd fresh and then runner up to a handy one in Shelstein last start, that’s decent form.
(4) Lone Artist was well held last start but there was a gap between runs and can strip fitter now. (2) Gold Fever has won or placed in 10 of 13 and was a winner fresh. This is a little harder but has to go in exotics.
Selections:
(3) Heesen
(5) Anarita
(2) Gold Fever
(4) Love Artist
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 3
Although (1) Tulong is a 7-start maiden, I like what he has done this prep. Just kept making ground on the inside last start and run out of time. Just a slight query if he really wants to go past them.
(3) Meadowbrook is a consistent type who can race on speed and give a kick. Got every chance last start but still a good effort although beaten.
(2) Bon Vader was good on debut but horrible last start. Might improve on firm ground?
Feel that (7) In Society is well placed to peak 4th up. Since they have ridden conservatively, he has been hitting the line well. Out to this trip on the big track looks a nice move to me and can win this.
Selections:
(7) In Society
(1) Tulong
(3) Meadowbrook
(2) Bon Vader
Suggested Bet: Small Win bet (7) In Society
Race 4
(5) Vintage Vibes was plain on debut and tipped out. First up this prep was great on soft ground. Held up a couple of times in the straight and should have finished a lot closer. Firmer track but have to respect.
They rode (6) Dialidae quiet last start and liked the way she found the line. In a really smart stable, by a good sire and still lightly raced. This is easier than last start.
I’ll admit (1) Nottington Prince has been nice and solid the last couple of races. My concern is they were soft ground and this is a different surface today.
Liked the latest trial from (8) Justa Barty. Looks a big strong filly and in the Freedman yard. Could run well on debut.
Selections:
(6) Dialidae
(5) Vintage Vibes
(1) Nottington Prince
(8) Justa Barty
Suggested Bet: Small win (6) Dialidae
Race 5
This is actually pretty competitive. They scratched (3) Throttle Response from a race at the GC on Saturday where he looked a good thing, so pressure on to get a result here. Has been in good form and can peak 4th up.
(2) Tommy Thug broke maiden status by 8.3L on a heavy track last start. Very hard to line that form up here but it was impressive and is in the Maher camp.
No doubt (1) Easy Love has the ability to win but he was there to win his last couple as well. Is fitter 3rd up and just has to lump the 60kg.
Good little race this one.
Selections:
(3) Throttle Response
(1) Easy Love
(2) Tommy Thug
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 6
Maloney in form and rides (1) Lost His Beans. Has won 5 of 9 so has obvious ability. Got back fresh but best L600-400-200m of the race that day so run was better than it looked.
(4) Zambezi Khan is ex-Victorian and feel that form there was good enough for this. The recent trial was sneaky good.
(7) Seneschal has only won 2 of 18 and that’s always a concern. His form this prep has been more than good enough to win here. Form around Rhuvaal and Anemacore is genuinely good Saturday form and this is well placed.
Stable in form with (10) Wirewalker but this is harder.
Selections:
(1) Lost His Beans
(4) Zambezi Khan
(7) Seneschal
(10) Wirewalker
Suggested Bet: Split win bets (1) Lost His Beans and (4) Zambezi Khan
Race 7
I’ve taken on (1) Little Jeanie with success lately but do have to admit she has been solid in defeat. Likely to be right in the market and look the winner again at some stage. Does jump 7kg off the latest run.
(2) San Gabriel looks like one that is still on the way up to me. Got in a fight last start with a half decent one and come out on top. Rock hard fit now and hard to beat again.
(7) Subterrain is lightly raced, has ability but this is harder.
Not sure if (8) Vos Savant has had issues but she can mix her form. Always has good late splits and I love the stable. Maybe just watch the market with her.
Selections:
(2) San Gabriel
(1) Little Jeanie
(8) Vos Savant
Suggested Bet: Small (2) San Gabriel if $3.50+
