Track Insight: Momentum has been king on the Ballarat Synthetic this season. It’s a distinct advantage to settle on speed, and don’t be too concerned by wide runs – as long as horses avoid the dreaded kickback, they’re in the game.
Race 1 No 7 Olatunde (even money)
This looks a borderline moral.
Olatunde was tested in the Blue Diamond Series as a 2YO – while he didn’t quite measure up, he wasn’t disgraced. Now gelded and under the care of Tim Fitzsimmons (formerly with Peter Moody), he returns a stronger, more focused horse.
He’s trialled like a bomb this prep – three sharp hit-outs suggest he’s ready to explode first-up.
Drawn gate two with Damien Lane aboard, he should either lead or box-seat. In a race lacking depth, that early control could prove decisive.
Even money seems generous – I’ve marked him closer to $1.50. Get in the queue.
