This meeting has been completely reshaped with the transfer from Bendigo to Ballarat’s synthetic track.
The surface has produced heavy kickback throughout winter, so the key will be avoiding it – either by racing on-speed or getting into clear air out wide. One possible saving grace: the track tends to play fairer with some rainfall, so fingers crossed for a touch of moisture today.
Race 4 – Rang A Round Up
I was on him at Sale and rewatching the replay was painful – he should have won. He hung out badly from the 800m and went to the line virtually untested, still managing to finish a close second. He’s since been back to the jump-outs and, importantly, gets a senior jockey on today. This is a very weak race. Expect him to jump, lead, control the tempo, and put them away in the straight.
