Turf Talk
- Rail true at Hamilton generally gives those on speed an edge.
- Track has been upgraded significantly the last few days, so quickly drying out. Few showers forecast during the day, but if it does continue to dry out it will only further advantage horses on speed.
Race 3 No.3 Limosa (1×3 E/W)
Limosa comes through a race at Mount Gambier last start that has already produced some solid form. This mare was first-up there at the 1300m and she had no luck in behind the speed while others were building momentum. Drawn out here, but they have a reasonable run into the home bend for Jack Hill to find a spot one off the fence. Thought she should be shorter than $9.
Magnetic Chess showed talent at the trial before being heavily backed on debut at Warrnambool. He was very green there and was beaten by a handy one in Savitri. He will be hard to beat but is too short at $1.95-$2.
With the track drying out, Mystic Rapture is going to take a lot of catching up on speed.
Suggested bet: Backing Limosa 1×3 E/W.
Race 6 No.6 Big Sexy
Speed comes from King West, Mere Morsel, A Good Yarn and to a lesser extent Thailess. They should generate a strong tempo which will suit Big Sexy. He is going to need a little bit of luck to get a clear run at the top of the straight, but he has jumped-out brilliantly and both his runs last campaign were excellent. He was strong late to win his maiden on debut at Warrnambool, a race that produced several subsequent winners. He was then clearly the best of the backmarkers (3rd best last 200m split of the meeting) in a race dominated on speed at Flemington. With even luck, think he is the horse to beat.
Suggested bet: Backing Big Sexy.
