Turf Talk:
- The track is currently rated at a Good 4 but there is a forecast for some showery weather. Perhaps not enough to cause a downgrade, but that could change — so monitor conditions.
- The rail returns to the True position for the first time since September.
- You can make up ground at this track when tempos suit, but generally give a small advantage to runners who settle forward of midfield. Locally trained runners also tend to perform well here.
The Stats That Matter:
- Celine Gaudray is booked to ride in 8 of 9 races on this program. She is in superb form, riding 20 winners from her last 100 starts at a healthy POT of +25.5%.
Race 6 No.5 Bon Fete
BON FETE has had three runs this prep and her last two have been particularly handy. She ran into the placings two starts ago when up in grade before finishing fourth in a race that rated well. Expecting she can bounce back coming back to her home track in what looks an easier race than her recent assignments. Drawn ideally, she should land in the front half of the field, giving herself every chance.
Selections: (5) BON FETE
Suggested Bet: BON FETE WIN
Race 9 No.2 Recon
RECON appears to be good betting value in this race. Risking BAZABALL REWARDED, who is flying here at Mornington, but the 1200m could test her if she begins to over-race. With two speedy runners ahead, that’s the risk. RECON was well supported first-up at Benalla but left himself too much to do late while still hitting the line strongly. He’s a proven performer at 1200m (3:2-0-0), and if he can settle closer from barrier one and get a clear run late, he’ll be very hard to hold out.
Selections: (2) RECON
Suggested Bet: RECON WIN
