Turf Talk
- Rail goes out 3m, having been true at the latest meeting.
- When firm, Warrnambool tends to favour on-speed runners.
- 1200m and 1400m starts allow long runs down the back into the sweeping bend.
Race 3 No.10 Magnetic Chess / small on roughie No.3 Major Jackpot
This doesn’t look an overly strong maiden, giving the debutants their chance. Magnetic Chess has had four jump-outs across two campaigns and impressed each time. He’s shown versatility to lead or take a sit, and from a good draw Johnny Allen should be positive. Expect him to settle in the first four and the 1200m looks ideal — he should be in the finish.
Major Jackpot can run a race at big odds. He got too far back on a leaders’ deck at Casterton on debut last prep but hit the line well against the pattern. His recent Hamilton jump-out was sound and from a fair draw he looks big overs at $31+.
Savitri has shown talent at the trials and can run well, while Lisa Lass is another in the mix.
Betting suggestion: Back (10) Magnetic Chess, something small (3) Major Jackpot.
Race 6 No.4 Divine Turf (E/W)
Getting back onto firmer footing is a huge plus for Divine Turf, who was all at sea on the Heavy 10 at Moe first-up. She’s drawn to land behind the leaders and from that spot should be hard to hold out. The 1400m is her sweet spot and her ratings from last prep measure right up. At $11, she looks terrific each-way value.
Betting suggestion: Back Divine Turf E/W.
Race 7 No.5 Do It Now / No.10 Exciting Times
Two winning chances stand out.
Exciting Times trialled well before her latest start, where the blinkers went on and she worked home strongly. She actually jumped cleanly but ended up in the second half of the field; expect them to be more positive today. At $7.50, she looks value.
Do It Now is the most promising horse in the race. Totally forgive her latest when found lame — her Bendigo run prior was excellent. She’s had seven weeks to recover and tuned up with a solid Cranbourne trial.
Betting suggestion: Back (5) Do It Now and (10) Exciting Times.
