On the back of finding Too Darn Discreet at $26 and placegetters Capper Thirtynine and Bandi’s Boy at big prices, Matt Welsh is keen to pile into The Valley this Saturday.
Race 2 No.9 Roaring Engine
Roaring Engine looks set to peak now fourth-up getting to The Valley, a track he has enjoyed in the past. He should get into a lovely trailing position, just behind the speed. He won off this same set up last campaign: fourth up, 2500m at The Valley and I think he can go close on Saturday.
Race 3 Backing No.1 Jenni The Fox & No.12 Bonaroo
Jenni The Fox has had just the four starts for Alex Rae and she has been very good on a couple of occasions. She resumes here with the 60kg but relatively speaking she’s in at the weights relative to rivals. The knock is she will get back here, but he jump-out was solid and Craig Newitt gets on with her well.
Bonaroo is set to go around 50/1 +, which seems absurd. Her form since joining the Young stable has been excellent and she was good through the line at Sandown over 1000m fresh. The 1200m here is ideal and she maps nicely, provided horses can make ground.
Race 7 No.1 Berkley Square
He only just qualifies for a ‘roughie’ at $10 but Dan O’Sullivan can ‘do it again’ for us this week. Berkely Square has had two pipe-openers over a mile and looks set to peak now up to 2040m. He has a very good third-up record, goes well for Jaylah Kenney and has won here at the track and trip – there’s plenty in his favour on Saturday.
