Turf Talk:
- Rail True – Strong expected pattern here, lanes 4+ in the straight with off-rails in run and forward of midfield a key advantage as well.
The stats that matter:
- Over the past 90 days Adam Hyeronimus is striking at an impressive 32.4% with a positive POT of +65.1%.
- Matthew Smith is the stable to follow over the past 90 days up to $10SP, the team is striking at 35.5% with a impressive POT of +55.4%. They are effective with runners first, second and third up.
Race by race overview
Race 1
(17) Bojangles should get a run here with scratching, dual accepted for later in the day but this looks the better option. He’s been super consistent this prep and will appreciate the slight drop in class.
(5) Super Nui was good first-up before a total forgive run second-up when leading her rivals up at a fast tempo. I except her to be ridden off speed here and asked to find the line.
The locally trained (4) Mogwai should roll forward from the draw, his race is likely won or lost in the first 300m.
The consistent (8) Callistemon rounds out the numbers.
Selections:
(17) Bojangles
(5) Super Nui
(4) Mogwai
(8) Callistemon
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 2
(10) Write Your Own goes on top here in the Highway, the 1600m assignment didn’t work last time out, back to 1400m is the big tick here.
(6) Tommy Flyer needs luck early to cross, he is a horse that can adapt though, the positive for him is ideally landing off rails with a nice claim.
(3) Alottosay has been kept up to the mark with a smart tick-over trial. She maps well from the gate and likes the firmer decks.
(11) Bon Holler rounds out the numbers but looks very short in the market.
Selections:
(10) Write Your Own
(6) Tommy Flyer
(3) Alottosay
(11) Bon Holler
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 3
One of the most even 1000m BM78 contests I’ve seen. Plenty of speed up front and with the rail in the True, horses off rails running on look best suited.
(9) Couples Retreat comes out of a very strong rating last start contest, back to 1000m here with the speed on up front reads well.
(1) Spywire is the class horse but does have to lug 61kg off the back of one trial, in this but will need luck.
I suspect (4) Hawker Hall may be the best horse to come out of the race but the inside draw has me worried with this expected track pattern.
(7) Zaragoza was outstanding fresh, back to the home deck is a strong positive also. Great race.
Selections:
(9) Couples Retreat
(1) Spywire
(4) Hawker Hall
(7) Zaragoza
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 4
Another very competitive race with plenty of speed engaged up front.
We might be seeing the real (7) Spirit Of Wealth here, she was back to her best last over 1100m when savaging the line, she strips fitter and looks ready for 1200m.
I expect Nash to take a sit here from the tricky draw aboard (1) Weeping Woman. She goes up in the weights, which is a knock, but gets the right race shape here.
(8) Amreekiyah returns to the races, she has been very up and down but always puts in fresh. The query is the firm deck.
(2) Jellicious rounds out the numbers, will need a career peak to win but gets an ideal set up.
Selections:
(7) Spirit Of Wealth
(1) Weeping Woman
(8) Amreekiyah
(2) Jellicious
Suggested Bet – Spirit Of Wealth
Race 5
Easily the hardest race on the day. Massive field but no real tempo up front.
I’ll put (1) Hurstville Zagreb on top, the barrier is the key to his chances from the sticky 2000m starting point. Smart recent form and just need a good ride to get off rails.
(2) Oceanfront brings a trifecta of wins to this event but faces his toughest ask of the prep. He’ll cop the ideal run from barrier 6 and should be in the finish.
The progressive (12) Natoya rounds out the numbers.
Selections:
(1) Hurtsville Zagreb
(2) Oceanfront
(12) Natoya
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 6
Cracking contest.
(7) Shady Thinker did a good job from back in the field last start at Rosehill, peak fitness now third up and importantly will hold a spot from the good draw.
(12) Quietly Arrogant looks to be a big price here. Smart, smart trials, has a lethal turn of speed but will get a long way back from the draw.
(10) Smashing Time showed a versatile pattern fresh here when leading all the way, a different set up here from gate 13 suggest he’ll go back, look for him to be launching late.
(14) Sociable and (2) Tuned round out the numbers, both off the back of last start wins full of confidence.
Selections:
(7) Shady Thinker
(12) Quietly Arrogant
(10) Smashing Time
(14) Sociable
(2) Tuned
Suggested Bet – Shady Thinker/ Quietly Arrogant WIN
Race 7
Intriguing edition of The Warra, 1000m dash from the very kind starting point.
(3) Zealously is the best out and out 1000m galloper in the field, dominant fresh before being pestered early and compounding late in a strong G2 contest at Caulfield. 54kg here and goes on top.
(2) Barber is the danger, not sure 1000m is his go but he will enjoy the small field and good gate here off two good trials.
(7) The Black Cloud goes in the mix, the wide gate poses no issues, she is yet to miss a top two placing fresh and does go well over the 1000m.
The locally trained (8) Sunrise and veteran (1) Dragonstone round out the numbers.
Selections:
(3) Zealously
(2) Barber
(7) The Black Cloud
(8) Sunrise
(1) Dragonstone
Suggested Bet – Zealously WIN
Race 8
The $1mil Gong is the feature event of the program. The 1600m starting point is extremely kind with outside barriers having a strong advantage.
I can’t go past the defending champion in (1) Gringotts. He’s improved with every run this prep and now peaks third up from a lovely draw. He’ll land off risks and have first crack at getting to the ideal lanes 4+ in the straight.
(3) Estadio Mestalla draws out but should roll forward and land forward of midfield, sectional star last start at Newcastle but does need to go 1300m to 1600m within a week.
(13) Tavi Time stays at his pet 1600m trip, another who draws out but should enjoy a nice run in transit from the kind starting point. He will also enjoy the slight drop in class here after a very luckless last start run.
(7) Territory Express found form last start with a sneaky run up the inside at Hawkesbury, will get a long way back from the draw but goes in the mix.
Selections:
(1) Gringotts
(3) Estadio Mestalla
(13) Tavi Time
(7) Territory Express
Suggested Bet – Gringotts WIN
Race 9
Good race.
(5) Well Timed is ready to tackle the 1600m after absorbing a strong tempo at Hawkesbury to only just be nabbed late by Harlem Queen who had the perfect run. He’ll land on speed here in a race that lacks tempo and is the horse to beat.
(4) Ruby Flyer would have been close to top pick if it wasn’t for the gate. She’s absolutely flying but will need luck from the gate.
(6) Lord Of Biscay is the map horse, added help with the 2kg claim and loves the firm track.
The locally trained (3) Our Gold Hope rounds out the numbers with the winkers going on.
Selections:
(5) Well Timed
(4) Ruby Flyer
(6) Lord Of Biscay
(3) Our Gold Hope
Suggested Bet – Well Timed WIN
Race 10
Wide open event to round out the program.
(4) Yes Lulu was outstanding last start at Rosehill when showing off a smart turn of speed, a repeat of that has her winning this.
(8) Bartolf is the danger, he should enjoy the ideal run in transit and going off his 1300m two back he is ready for 1400m.
(6) Midnight Dynamite will likely become a bet if this rain hits, he’s a much better horse with the sting out.
Selections:
(4) Yes Lulu
(6) Midnight Dynamite
(8) Bartolf
Suggested Bet – No Bet
