Race Horse Summary
R8 No.4 Touchdown – Best Good winner two back, strong through line last start, perfectly placed.
R4 No.6 Zebella – Next Best Maps to lead, light weight, fitter 2nd up – hard to run down.
R7 No.2 Longer Route – Value Strong late splits 1st up – extra trip looks ideal.
R3 No.1 Act Natural Victorian ratings solid; can control tempo on speed.

Turf Talk:

  • Racing on the course proper for the 2nd week running; rail +6 m entire.
  • Track Soft 6 with rain forecast – expect a downgrade if it arrives.
  • Should race fair, but when wet the course proper often favours wide lanes in the straight.

The Stats That Matter:

  • Garret Lynch stable striking at 16% (last 100) and 11% at Morphettville, +52% POT – five runners engaged today.

Race 1

An early season 2YO race kicks off the meeting here today. (1) Blandford Baron ran 2nd on debut in a 2YO feature race behind a highly rated runner. He showed talent at trial level and on debut so can build from that now. (2) Portarlington makes his debut in this race, showed good fight in a trial last week and ran through the line strongly, expect a good performance on debut. (5) Got Tickets is a Victorian visitor who is also on debut, she made good improvement across recent trials which is encouraging. (4) Rebel Tuesday ran 3rd in the race that (1) Blandford Baron also comes out of on debut, could be an improver with that race experience now.

Selections:
(1) Blandford Baron
(2) Portarlington
(5) Got Tickets
(4) Rebel Tuesday

Suggested Bet: No bet – tricky early 2YO race on potentially wet ground.

Race 2

(2) Arugamama looks the runner to beat in this race after a strong performance last start behind in form Darknconfidential. She was doing her best work late hitting the line strongly so looks ideally suited rising in trip to the 2500m. (4) Salsita brings in a unique form line from Victoria, he looks ready for the 2500m trip given how he hit the line at Mornington last start. (1) Test The Law has been consistent at a good level this prep, may be tested over this trip unless he gets a soft lead, a heavy track could be his biggest advantage. (3) Smiling Assassin next who is proven over the 2500m and on wet tracks so can surprise.

Selections:
(2) Arugamama
(4) Salsita
(1) Test The Law
(3) Smiling Assassin

Suggested Bet: No bet – Arugamama deserves favouritism but unders in wet.

Race 3

(1) Act Natural has been banging down the door for a win for a while now having run into the placings in all his 7 career starts. He looks one of the key speed chances in the race so should find a strong position in running and his recent Victorian runs have rated well for this grade, looks the one to beat. (12) Damelli resumes today, she contested stronger races last prep and recently trialled well, but the wide barrier doesn’t appear to be ideal in this. (6) Light The Night also resumes, his recent trial win suggested he may have improved since his first prep runs. (15) I Am Ole is one who comes out of our blackbooks, we have seen him once at the races where he was very green. In a recent trial he was green again but showed a slick turn of foot late. If he settles early in the run here and the track is even, he wouldn’t surprise.

Selections:
(1) Act Natural
(12) Damelli
(6) Light The Night
(15) I Am Ole

Suggested Bet: Act Natural (Win)

Race 4

Liking the chances of (6) Zebella with this set up she has. She ran well fresh behind Ndola who has gone on to win again franking that form line and now she is fitter 2nd up where she has had previous success. Looks a likely leader of this race and gets in light at the weights after a 2kg apprentice claim, she may take some catching. (2) Karavas returns to SA having contested stronger black type level races in Victoria, she could be an improver down in grade. (1) Sir Now missed the kick last start and fitness gave out fresh, he should improve fitter today but gives a huge weight advantage to (6) Zebella which could make it tough, a heavy rated track may set him up better. (8) Mystic Wonder finished last prep in good form. She has a recent trial win in the lead up to this and gets in light at the weight. Could surprise if she can handle the step up in grade.

Selections:
(6) Zebella
(2) Karavas
(1) Sir Now
(8) Mystic Wonder

Suggested Bet: Zebella (Win)

Race 5

(1) Battle Of The Ice impressed on debut when winning easily at Kyneton back in May. His recent trials have also looked good, and he appears to be in good order here, gets a favourable race map as well so looks well set up. (2) Hot Statement impressed with a win when resuming, he won easily that day and again draws well and will be suited with a slight rise in trip. (5) Stolen Kiss ran into the placings last start and may be better suited dropping in grade. (4) Kikorangi was a run away winner last start at Balaklava and maps to be the leader here again today, could pinch this if he gets away in the early stages of the race.

Selections:
(1) Battle Of The Ice
(2) Hot Statement
(5) Stolen Kiss
(4) Kikorangi

Suggested Bet: No bet – monitor travel and market moves.

Race 6

(2) The Mansman has run into the placings in his last 3 starts and will be suited today dropping slightly in grade, looks ready for the 2000m trip. (3) King Of Wessex is a last start winner, dropping slightly in weight here suits and he maps favourably, could go on with it now after a confidence building win last time. (7) Tierra also looks to build off her last start win at Kilmore. She is proven at the trip and consistent so can figure. (4) Lomax ran well up in grade last start, he should find this easier and will be suited on a wet track.

Selections:
(2) The Mansman
(3) King Of Wessex
(7) Tierra
(4) Lomax

Suggested Bet: No bet – little wet-track confidence.

Race 7

Four of these runners meet again out of a key form race at Murray Bridge two weeks ago. The eye catcher of that race was (2) Longer Route who ran the fastest L800m, L600m & L400m of the race taking ground off rivals quickly, 2nd up now and rising in distance looks ideal off that performance. Fitness looked to give out late in that race for (3) Party Crasher but you would expect improvement from that run, rising in trip to the 1800m today. (12) Pelevecchio has proved hard to catch for punters in her two runs this prep. Her form through last prep was impressive at group level and rising to the 1800m will help, but she needs to find improvement off her last few starts that appeared easier rated races. (8) Flaming Navy was an impressive winner last start at Balaklava when winning by nearly 7L, he may lead up and if given a soft run could take some catching.

Selections:
(2) Longer Route
(3) Party Crasher
(12) Pelevecchio
(8) Flaming Navy

Suggested Bet: Longer Route (Each-way)

Race 8

Victorian visitor (4) Touchdown was a winner as a very short priced favourite two starts back before running 2nd last start. He left himself too much to do off a slow tempo but still managed to reel off the fastest L600m & L400m of the race. This race looks very suitable for him now. (8) Tower Of Tuscany has run into the placings in his last two starts over this track/distance. He maps well again here and should go close again. (9) Cockatoo Rose was a strong winner last start and is in good form having won 2 of 4 runs this prep, she will push forwards again and has a light weight. (7) Alainge is on the quick back up from last week, she has a good record at this 1600m and might benefit if they over do it out in front.

Selections:
(4) Touchdown
(8) Tower Of Tuscany
(9) Cockatoo Rose
(7) Alainge

Suggested Bet: Touchdown (Win)

Race 9

(10) Round Two has found some good form since winning at maiden level three starts ago. He was run down late last time when over racing badly and had some issues last time at the races when scratched. In a recent trial, he looked as if he had gotten over those issues and put in an impressive 6.5L win, if he can run up to what he showed in that trial he is placed well. (4) Super Alana is a consistent mare who will be well suited dropping back in grade here today. She may need luck early from a wide barrier, which is the query, but the race doesn’t appear to have a great deal of speed, which helps. (3) Free Beer is a horse in form having won 2/3 starts this prep, he takes a step up in grade today, but if the track is rated a heavy, he may be best suited given he is undefeated when racing on heavy tracks. (8) Streetcar Fury rewarded patient punters with a good win last start at Murray Bridge, he was previously defeated twice prior as the race favourite, can build off that last start performance but is untested on wet tracks.

Selections:

(10) Round Two
(4) Super Alana
(3) Free Beer
(8) Streetcar Fury

Suggested Bet: No bet – track watch; Free Beer appeals if heavy.
