Race 1
Wide open Highway event this week, a touch down on quality too. I’ll lean the way of (13) Fan Harder, she should get a OK lead here up front from the inside draw and is aided by the 2kg claim of Roper. (5) Poisen Point keeps Lloyd in the saddle coming off a smart last start Highway win. The consistent (2) Christa goes in the mix. Deep into the prep now and maps to get the run of the race. (1) Peninsula rounds out the numbers with the use of the claim.
Selections:
(13) Fan Harder
(4) Poisen Point
(2) Christa
(1) Peninsula
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 2
Fascinating Midway, you don’t often see Group 2 form in this grade but (5) Modella brings exactly that after a solid effort in the G2 Golden Pendant. She was exceptional fresh as well and now peaks third up dropping back significantly in grade. From the draw, she’s clearly the horse to beat. (2) Vetwelve should have a tactical advantage here off the back of a luckless last start effort in Midway grade. The smart use of the claim helps. (1) Alabama State was backed off the map last start, he loomed to win but just knocked up fitness-wise. Look for him to improve second up. (12) Strawberry Impact brings slightly inferior form to this event but those two efforts have been high rating, she’s right in this from a lovely draw.
Selections:
(5) Modella
(2) Vetwelve
(1) Alabama State
(12) Strawberry Impact
Suggested Bet: Modella WIN
Race 3
A race that lacks speed completely. (6) Vega Magnifico gets in light with the claim with Nock aboard, the wide gate shouldn’t be an issue from the very kind 2000m start, right in this. (8) Tastula maps well from barrier 4 coming off a sharp last start win, expecting further improvement now third up. (9) Agita rounds out the numbers off the back of a last start win.
Selections:
(6) Vega Magnifico
(8) Tastula
(9) Agita
(3) Pocketing
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 4 – Roman Consul Stakes
Smart edition of the Roman Consul Stakes, I can’t go past the last start Heritage winner (8) Marhoona. She gave away race fitness there but built impressively into the race and was coming away on the line, with the added fitness and gun map again second up, she’s the one to beat. (4) Grand Eagle has come up massive odds here, he was terrific second up flashing to the line back to the inside. Now to 1200m suits, as does the gate. (1) Beadman was another who gave away race fitness first up in the Heritage, he’ll improve here but may want it wet. (2) Gallo Nero and (7) Napoleonic round out the numbers.
Selections:
(8) Marhoona
(4) Grand Eagle
(1) Beadman
(2) Gallo Nero
(7) Napoleonic
Suggested Bet: Marhoona WIN
Race 5 – Tapp-Craig Stakes
Cracking edition of the Tapp-Craig over 1400m. (2) Farnicle was exceptional fresh from a long way back, he hit a bit of a flat spot over 1100m but found his gears late. Straight to 1400m and looks very well suited. Loved the late work of (6) Ohope last start, he’s another who maps well and is ready for 1400m. I expect (5) Duke Of Arrakis to improve sharply second up rising in trip, he looked to have needed that first-up blowout. The market watch is on (12) Kujenga who comes off a forgive run last time out when something wasn’t right. She has done this in the past before bouncing back sharply in her next start, monitor.
Selections:
(2) Farnicle
(6) Ohope
(5) Duke Of Arrakis
(12) Kujenga
Suggested Bet: Farnicle WIN
Race 6 – Gloaming Stakes
Incredibly tough edition of the Gloaming Stakes. I liked the last start win of (7) Shangri La Boy. The half to Storm Boy improved sharply second up out in trip and can do so again here. The stablemate (8) Champagne Hero brings a similar profile, smart last start win and looks suited out in trip. (2) Flying Orchid found form last start when the shades went on, she races on the quick back-up and is the map horse from gate 3. (4) Master Of The Air has to go in the mix, back-to-back progressive wins and looks ready to take this step up in grade.
Selections:
(7) Shangri La Boy
(8) Champagne Hero
(2) Flying Orchid
(4) Master Of Air
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 7 – The Nivison
Good edition of the Nivison, the track pattern will likely dictate the winner of this event. If horses are running on, (14) Monte Supreme looks the horse to beat. Bjorn Baker has done an exceptional job with her since joining the camp, 3/3 with her latest win clearly the best yet. (6) Gangsta Granny has the tactical edge, she was given a poor ride last start when trapped wide but should have no issues today from gate 5. Eyes will be firming on (2) Pounce in the yard, US mare who has group form on her page. The consistent (1) Infancy has to go in the mix, solid trials and won first up last prep.
Selections:
(14) Monte Supreme
(6) Gangsta Granny
(2) Pounce
(1) Infancy
Suggested Bet: Monte Supreme EACH-WAY
Race 8 – Hill Stakes
Interesting edition of the Hill Stakes. (2) Lindermann has returned in outstanding order, back-to-back impressive 1600m efforts and looks ready to peak now up to 1900m. The wide draw shouldn’t pose an issue from the 1900m starting point. The danger is (1) Light Infantry Man, I loved his work late behind Lindermann last start and the extra 300m can only help. (5) Kovalica was equally as good late, he is another who is suited by the rise but may need 2000m+ to be at his best. (14) Maison Louis and (10) Kingswood bring different formlines to this event, both need to improve but draw well and can.
Selections:
(2) Lindermann
(1) Light Infantry Man
(5) Kovalica
(14) Maison Louis
(10) Kingswood
Suggested Bet: Lindermann WIN
Race 9 – Alan Brown Stakes
The Alan Brown looks a lot more like an Epsom Handicap this year. Plenty of depth and plenty of speed in the race. At good odds, (13) General Salute goes on top, 1400m is the slight question mark but he chased Autumn Glow to within 2.3L last start. (14) Firestorm brings a smart last start figure to the event behind the impressive Manaal. He’ll need luck from the gate but should enjoy the tempo. (10) Willydoit was an eye-catcher first up behind Pericles, he’s been back to the trials since and looks ready to launch now second up rising to 1400m. The consistent (1) Gringotts is next best but has had back-to-back setbacks leading in.
Selections:
(13) General Salute
(14) Firestorm
(10) Willydoit
(1) Gringotts
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 10
Impressive end to the program. It looks (3) Roselyn’s Star’s race to lose on paper, smart last start effort behind the impressive Monte Supreme. She maps ideally again and is ready to win. All eyes will be on the parade of (1) Amazing Eagle, a long layoff but couldn’t have been more impressive in two trials back. 60kg isn’t ideal though. (7) Polyglot is flying but lacks tactical speed, again in the hunt but needs luck from the tricky chute start. (5) Yankee One rounds out the numbers fresh.
Selections:
(3) Roselyn’s Star
(1) Amazing Eagle
(7) Polyglot
(5) Yankee One
Suggested Bet: Roselyn’s Star WIN
