Race 1
Smaller Highway field than we’re used to, but it’s an outstanding little race on paper. (3) Lunaite goes on top – yes, she’s a better horse on a wet deck, but she has solid figures on dry from last prep. Loved her recent tick-over trial and like her tactical speed.
(5) Social Circle brings smart Highway and midweek form; the fast tempo up front will play right into her hands.
(1) Madrina is another who will enjoy the tempo up front and be running on – fourth up now and gets a key jockey upgrade.
Respecting the market support for (7) Favour The Bold, who’s chasing three in a row and maps ideally here rising in class.
Selections:
(3) Lunaite
(5) Social Circle
(1) Madrina
(7) Favour The Bold
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 2
Wide open Midway this week. Expect (6) Oakfield Jupiter to prove hard to beat once again – he’ll cross from the wider draw and land up on speed, and should only improve fitness-wise.
(5) Motoscafo was well backed last start when running well; she’s a second-up winner and 1/1 at the track.
(7) Super Nui maps ideally from barrier 5 – typical of the camp, their runners improve sharply second and third up.
(11) Hyperbolic needs luck from the draw but can feature in the finish with a kind run.
Selections:
(6) Oakfield Jupiter
(5) Motoscafo
(7) Super Nui
(11) Hyperbolic
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 3
Another tricky race. (2) Thebudgiesmugla exploded last start over 2400m on a Soft 7 – now to a Good 4 is the query, but he’s a fit racehorse and goes on top.
(3) Captain Maverick doesn’t mind wet or dry, hits this race fit and in form, and from the draw expect Nash to be positive.
(9) Sting In The Tail got the luck needed last start and can go on with it now with confidence.
(10) Presley goes in the mix, reaching peak fitness deeper into the prep.
Selections:
(2) Thebudgiesmugla
(3) Captain Maverick
(9) Sting In The Tail
(10) Presley
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 4
One of the races of the day from a betting perspective. (2) Tuned goes on top first up – he’s been gelded into this prep and looks to have the mind on the job judging by two eye-catching trials.
(5) Shady Thinker showed off a sharp turn of foot first up to overcome a tricky map; has to travel to Sydney but is a proven second-up winner.
(1) Midnight Dynamite was great last start posting a career-best win; back to a firm deck is a slight knock.
The in form, race-fit (4) Bartolf rounds out the numbers.
Selections:
(2) Tuned
(5) Shady Thinker
(1) Midnight Dynamite
(4) Bartolf
Suggested Bet – Tuned EW / Shady Thinker WIN
Race 5
Happy to stick with the progressive (2) Hurstville Zagreb for the in form O’Shea & Charlton camp. He exploded second up and confirmed he’s come back better; third up now and finds the perfect 1800m Saturday contest.
(5) Brave Call brings completely different form lines but peaks third up, sticking to the trip.
(3) Luskaire was excellent last start back on a firm deck – that was his best figure of the prep.
The in form (1) Brosnan rounds out the numbers from a lovely draw.
Selections:
(2) Hurstville Zagreb
(5) Brave Call
(3) Luskaire
(1) Brosnan
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 6
The Golden Gift for the 2YOs – one of the feature events on the program. Strong race on paper with good speed expected up front.
(1) Revengeance brings key race experience from his eye-catching debut in the Breeders Plate. He’s since trialled well and has a key advantage.
Of the first starters, (5) Artemex is the clear pick – a soft but ominous sole trial leading in; maps ideally from barrier 3 and is a big player.
Stablemate (8) The Next Episode is another with talent – still green but has ability.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained (6) Plagiarism rounds out the numbers, though he’ll need luck from the draw.
Selections:
(1) Revengeance
(5) Artemex
(8) The Next Episode
(6) Plagiarism
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 7
A race where you could make a case for nearly all nine runners. Sticking with the flying (9) Bauhinia, luckless two starts back over 1200m before an eye-catching finish in The Invitation. Stays at 1400m now and from the good draw should be storming home late.
(5) Coco Jamboo is a market watch – her first-up runs have been her best and she gets the right tempo.
(3) Miraval Rose has been heavily backed early and looks to get a soft lead up front; the booking of Nash is significant.
(2) Miss Roumbini had no luck last start when trapped deep and can bounce back to winning form.
Selections:
(9) Bauhinia
(5) Coco Jamboo
(3) Miraval Rose
(2) Miss Roumbini
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 8
The feature event of the day. With the rail in the True and a big field, expect horses to be running on.
(7) Militarize is absolutely flying and thrives in fast-run races – would prefer a soft deck but handles dry ground.
(1) Transatlantic is in career best form but faces a trickier setup from a wide draw; Berry’s booking helps.
(8) Rise At Dawn has been consistent this prep without winning – maps well again and can figure.
(13) Vivy Air goes around on the quick back-up and can add value to exotics.
Selections:
(7) Militarize
(1) Transatlantic
(8) Rise At Dawn
(13) Vivy Air
Suggested Bet – Militarize EW
Race 9
Another strong betting race. (5) Silver Wedding wasn’t quite at her best first up off one soft trial, but with race fitness now she looks the one to beat.
(6) Spirit Of Wealth has talent but remains under the odds on hype – needs to prove herself at this level.
(11) Taxation took a big leap from provincial maiden grade to metro winner second up; needs to go again but has upside.
(9) Strada Varenna rounds out the numbers first up off a long break.
Selections:
(5) Silver Wedding
(6) Spirit Of Wealth
(11) Taxation
(9) Strada Varenna
Suggested Bet – No Bet
Race 10
Cracking end to the program. Plenty of speed expected over 1400m – keen to stick with the progressive (9) Frosty Girl, who’s taken a step forward each run this prep. Has tactical speed and looks the horse to beat from gate 1.
(3) Formal Display brings Dance To The Boom form, which reads well now after Cup day. Gets in light with the claim and maps to get a lovely run up on speed.
(5) Mawjood has been well backed early coming off a tougher race last start; maps well and lands on speed.
(2) Band Of Brothers is next best but is also dual accepted.
Selections:
(9) Frosty Girl
(3) Formal Display
(5) Mawjood
(2) Band Of Brothers
Suggested Bet – Frosty Girl WIN
