The team from The Trial Files take a look back at the Cranbourne jump-outs on Monday, April 6, identifying a host of coming winners you need in your blackbook.
Heat 2 – Another Wil (2nd)
Talented galloper who hasn’t been seen since running down the track in the Rupert Clarke back in September. First jump-out of the campaign, but a really encouraging piece of work. Went to the line hard held while Barbaric Lad to his inside was pushed out. They put a space on their rivals and ran time. Expect him to have another jump-out before he resumes.
Heat 3 – New York Lustre (1st)
Lovely piece of work from Enver Jusufovic’s sprinting mare. She led, travelled comfortably and won well, under her own steam. She may have another jump-out before resuming, but where she goes first-up, expect her to be hard to beat. Enver has a very good strike rate with his horses fresh and this mare has a lethal first-up record: 5-3-1-1.
Rey Magnerio went well in second, as you’d expect. While Bustling was an interesting runner, on the comeback trail after 81 weeks off. He went nicely in third, not asked to do a lot by Mark Zahra.
Heat 9 – Gatwick (1st)
This filly has trialled up sensationally on two occasions this campaign. She sat handy to the speed on Monday morning, angled out to the middle of the track, and won the heat under light riding. She’s had the one start at Hawkesbury last campaign when running third – expect her to quickly break her maiden this campaign. Ultimately, she looks like a filly that will end up in town.
Heat 12 – Come Together (1st)
Another blackbooker for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr. This son of Maurice only ran middling time for the morning but he moved brilliantly in taking out heat 12. May need another jump-out before debuting as this was his first for the campaign, but suspect he will be winning his share of races.
Heat 16 – Adira River (2nd)
The speedy Meisho ran slick time in taking out this heat but always trials well and was given a solid test late.
Suspect Adira River might be set for a Maiden at the ‘Bool, racing in the late Col McKenna colours. She was given a very quiet trial on March 23 but backed it up with this eye-catching effort, closing off strongly behind Meisho under Declan Bates. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her head to the 1400m Maiden on Day 2 of the May Carnival, but wherever she heads first-up, she will prove hard to beat.
