Summary of Best Bets
- Best Bet: Race 3 (7) Canya Berich
Turf Talk
- Rail out 9m.
- Just annoying weather like we have had for so long.
- Mostly fine, but little showers continue to stop the track from drying out.
Stats that matter
- Matt Hoysted has trained five winners from his last 16 runners and is in form, although he has just the one runner engaged at the meeting.
- Ryan Maloney continues to ride in excellent form with eight winners from his last 50 rides and a +41.2% ROI.
Race 1
The raced brigade have the big race day advantage but fair to say they aren’t stars. (1) Adora Djon’s has shown enough and (10) Pretty Smashing ran second on debut before a break. Both have some hope.
Now, all the first starters, good luck.
(2) Apex Predator has looked very good in trials. Easy winner of the latest and (12) Vital Impact made good ground late in the same trial.
(6) Misato was pushed out at the latest trial but was good. There was a gap back to the third horse and she comes from a good stable.
I might be way off the mark but I loved the trial of (7) My Girl Marley. She missed the start poorly but I loved her action and she just looks a handy one to my eye.
(11) Serene Legacy won a Toowoomba trial well but it is hard to line that form up.
Selections:
(7) My Girl Marley
(2) Apex Predator
(6) Misato
(10) Pretty Smashing
(1) Adora Djon’s
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 2
Lots of first starters and I want to watch and learn about them before I go betting on them.
Thought (1) Blacksmith was a nice trial win at his latest. Spirit Of Boom gelding and Thornton rides from a decent gate.
Just watch the market with (7) Metal Boss (scr). Seemed to be doing it okay in the trial and not sure if he just sat up or if it was the plan. A money trail with this stable would be a great guide. Stablemate (8) New Mexico can be respected in the same way. Trial was respectable.
(11) Punishment Day has been more than a pass mark in trials so far also.
(9) Nozomu has the race experience and that is always a huge advantage.
I’d only follow money here.
Selections:
(1) Blacksmith
(8) New Mexico
(9) Nozomu
(2) Bull Rayner
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 3
(7) Canya Berich looks a nice one. The debut run last prep was excellent. Ninety-one weeks off is far from ideal but the trials have been good enough and she looks like the one they have to beat.
(9) Arctic Bright has been consistent since changing stables to Anderson. Three placings from three runs in Queensland and it took a handy one to beat her last start in La Barrita. She will be near the speed and hard to get past.
(13) Tinklejazz has shown more than enough to win here. Bad gate but has won a recent trial.
Selections:
(7) Canya Berich
(9) Arctic Bright
(13) Tinklejazz
(1) Iconify
Suggested Bet: Win (7) Canya Berich
Race 4
Very hard to catch (1) Enterprise Lucia. She had bumped into some very handy horses this prep, so they dropped her in grade last time out and she nearly got the cash. This is suitable again and she gets a 2kg claim to help out.
(5) Nepravda is no star but since joining Heathcote she seems to have improved a little each start and should peak here fourth run back.
(6) Flying Shelly is limited but if there is rain about on race day she can be promoted. Winner on a Heavy 10 at Coffs Harbour last start.
(2) Heman is impossible to catch but has run well in similar or better races than this.
Selections:
(1) Enterprise Lucia
(5) Nepravda
(2) Heman
(6) Flying Shelly
Suggested Bet: Win (1) Enterprise Lucia
Race 5
If (1) Impervious was to bring her best, she would win. Has been well beaten in good races at her two runs back. This is easier but she has the big weight. The inside gate could be a help.
(4) Illegal Justice looked very good breaking maiden status back in March and then was tipped straight out. I reckon he has a future and it is just a matter of getting a good ride early from a bad barrier.
(9) Stein is lightly raced and has won or placed in all four starts to date. Likes this track, has won a recent trial and it is hard to find many knocks on her.
(13) Moshulu Spirit bolted in at the Sunshine Coast first-up. A 4.6-length win on soft ground and Thompson stays on top. This is harder obviously but he looks to have good upside.
Selections:
(1) Impervious
(13) Moshulu Spirit
(4) Illegal Justice
(9) Stein
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 6
Best of the day was scratched here.
(7) Bonus Season was well beaten in a Listed race last start. Back to this grade is much more suitable and there has been over a month between runs. May need a little luck from the gate but looks well placed by Begg.
(10) Queen Jeddah has shown ability but has only the one win so far. The inside gate can help but she needs to improve a little.
(11) Woot Woot was a $31 winner for Gollan last start. This is harder but they can push forward and give themselves a chance again.
Selections:
(7) Bonus Season
(10) Queen Jeddah
(1) Caishen
(11) Woot Woot
Suggested Bet: No
Race 7
(7) Saint Aldwyn has been a model of consistency since joining Schweida. Three wins and two placings from five runs. Out to this trip is a slight query but he is hard to knock.
(9) All Kinds Of Folk is well suited again but might be a bit of a thief. The market always likes her but she does not get it done often. She gets back and runs on to get people in again. I do like the fact Thompson stays on top.
There should be enough juice in the track for (10) Jemoma Alpilage to show her best. Winner first-up over 1700m and can be very strong late when races pan out for her. Being unplaced in six starts at this track is the concern.
(11) Hush Hush draws poorly but looks a decent filly in the making. The fact Maher was willing to go to a Group 3 with her three runs ago is more than enough for me to say she can win here. Maloney rides and she just needs some luck early.
(13) San Gabriel has only won two of 18 but was good last start and fitter for two runs back.
Selections:
(11) Hush Hush
(7) Saint Aldwyn
(9) All Kinds Of Folk
(10) Jemoma Alpilage
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 8
(9) Damehood can mix her form and be hard to catch. Strong last start on this track and gets a smart 3kg claim to help.
I’d expect (13) Diamond Show to need the run and further, but she might have a bit more talent than most of these. The Sydney BM64-72 form usually lines up well. She joins Munce and has trialled twice.
(5) Fort William has been consistent and draws well. looks a genuine chance after a couple of key runners have come out.
Selections:
(9) Damehood
(13) Diamond Show
(5) Fort William
(17) Riez Souvant
Suggested Bet: No Bet
