The Cummings name has returned to Flemington with Edward Cummings granted boxes for a satellite stable at Melbourne’s premier track.
The doors opened at Myrtle House Melbourne on Monday with 11 horses in the stable and room for more.
“It was a great opportunity to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather Bart, who created history at Flemington,” Cummings said.
“The VRC have been tremendous to work with, and to get an opportunity to grow my business at one of the best tracks in the world was wonderful.”
“I have Group 1 races at Flemington, and I look forward to having further success there.”
“It gives the stable a good balance. We can take advantage of races in Victoria and NSW and give our horses the best chances in the right races.”
Cummings has access to 19 Flemington boxes in total, taking over the stables vacated by Jason Warren.
He has Chilean Group 1 winning trainer Alejandro Padovani Figueroa as his Melbourne foreman, along with a small team of staff and riders.
“Alejandro came out and worked for Malua Racing and Troy Corstens gave him a huge wrap,” Cummings said.
“He is a great horseman and will be a major asset to the business.”
“He came up to Sydney for a week, and my staff didn’t want him to leave.”
“He is great to work with and it good to have someone like him on the team.”
Continuing the Chilean connection is Sofia Magdalena, who rode work for Godolphin at Flemington for two years, previously riding for Ciaron Maher. She is from a showjumping background and has been in Australia for seven years.
“I couldn’t be happier with the team involved headed by Alejandro Padovani and Sofia Magdalena who bring with them a wealth of experience. Our owners can be assured of the quality of care for their horses,” Cummings said.
