Race 2: (MDN 1200m)
Tempo: Average
Debutant (8) UTOPIC WARRIOR was scratched from a meeting midweek for this stronger Maiden race. The son of Deep Field has been given educational trials under George Rooke, a good beginner, he’s been taught to settle early to finish off which he’s done winning both recent trials. Still learning but if allowed to stride he can take a position-in-run advantage over his main rival (7) DEPRIVE, a very talented gelding who lacks any early speed and likely to be back and buried from a low draw on a modest speed.
Suggested Bet: UTOPIC WARRIOR
Race 4: (3YO SW+P 1600m)
Tempo: Above Average
The speed is on to suit (7) GLANCE, a very exciting filly by Savabeel with Stephen Marsh. Won a trial sprinting quickly from the rear off a pedestrian tempo in a slow heat, then snagged rearwards behind a good speed to repeat the effort on debut at Pukekohe where she smashed the line in fast closing splits. She looks high class to go through her grades.
Suggested Bet: GLANCE (Best)
Race 6: (R65 2200m)
Tempo: Above Average
Speed is on early with (8) MY MAEBELLINE GIRL, she set a hectic pace and stuck on well in a fast 2100m at Pukekohe last start. (3) COSMIC PURSUIT kicks up from a low draw. Pressure also from (4) FASTDEELDUN from a wide draw. With the expected speed, the lightly-tried (11) EMMY AWARD appeals as she showed off her staying credentials winning a weak Maiden at her 1st attempt over ground. Expect she can improve further with a stronger tempo here. The map horse is (1) GIPPSY GOD with Opie Bosson, supported in early betting for that reason and the one to beat. (9) SHOEBILL is a lay at the price, a filly taking on the older horses, untried at the trip in what could be a fast race.
Suggested Bets: GIPPSY GOD & EMMY AWARD
Race 7: (R65 1600m)
Tempo: Average
Two key chances. Former HK galloper (5) SWEET SMILE made his NZ debut winning a strong form race at Pukekohe, then followed up with a fast-finishing 2nd in higher grade drawing the inside which proved a hindrance with his lack of gate speed. If Masa can get him midfield from the draw, a genuine winning chance. Respecting (11) WHAT NEXT for a hot stable & rider combination, sat closer to the speed to clear maidens at Hawera, the filly was bolting in the run and raced keen but still impressive finishing off. Sam Collett to overcome a wide draw and punching forward. Another winning hope up in grade.
Suggested Bets: SWEET SMILE & WHAT NEXT
