From beach gallops to Black Type: Nick Kyrgios-owned colt set for Classic

Nick Kyrgios-owned colt Seeiaye, trained by Peter Snowden, returns for the Wyong Magic Millions Classic after a record-breaking debut.

Peter Snowden couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a message on his phone from outstanding horseman Tim Martin after Seeiaye won the Max Lees Classic last month.

It was simple and to the point, “I had a good bet on your horse, I trained the mum, and she was very fast.”

The pair talked soon after, and Martin said he told Snowden Seeiaye’s mum Blue Blazers could have been the fastest horse he had trained, but never got to the races.

“She’s a sister to Super One and has had two to race and they are both winners,” Martin said. “She was very good, we are seeing it in her babies. I’ll be backing it again on Wednesday. I wish I saw it at the sales.”

It seems Seeiaye, which was a $65,000 purchase by Capri Racing, has inherited the right genes and he will look to add the Wyong Magic Millions to his haul on Wednesday.

“He has always been very forward and ready to go, but a little naughty,” Snowden said.

“You could see the talent, and as he learns a bit more, he is getting better.”

“He just wanted to run at Newcastle and ran a race record, but since that run, we have taken him to the beach and given him a few different experiences, and that’s helping.”

“All his work at home is done sitting off other horses, and he has an excellent turn of foot.”

Seeiaye, whose owners include Nick Kyrgios, is $3.80 second pick in betting behind Bjorn Baker-trained Paradoxium, the $2.50 favourite after running fourth in the Breeders Plate.

Snowden is worried about the draw of six with Seeiaye.

“I would like to see him have a sit in this race, but that draw is a bit sticky, and we might just have to use him early,” Snowden said. “It is the next step, and it will tell us if we are heading to the Gold Coast with him.”
