We haven’t had a stack of Saturday metro racing at the Sunshine Coast of late, so it was a welcome return. Good surface, genuine racing and a few horses stamped themselves as serious follow plays going forward.
Here are three Gibbo is whacking in his blackbook.
Enterprise Private (Race 2)
This bloke is fast becoming a Betsy favourite.
He’s now delivered as a Best Bet at $14 two starts back and backed it up again at $5.50, and there was a lot to like about the latest win. He’s one of those progressive stayers who just keeps stepping through the grades while a lot of the opposition around him is pretty thin.
Yes, he’ll climb in the weights now, but he’s the type who does everything right in his races. A decent apprentice claim could easily offset the rise and there’s no reason he can’t keep the picket fence going in the right races.
Continue to follow with confidence.
Too Many Thoughts (Race 7)
The $21 winner that was better than it looked on paper.
He sat three wide with no cover for the entire trip, which is usually a recipe for folding late, but he kept finding and held them off in a tough performance. That’s the sort of win that often signals there’s more in the tank.
Now four wins from eight starts, he’s building a handy record and looks like a horse still on the way up rather than one who has reached his mark.
There are more races in him if he keeps getting similar setups.
Arabian Rose (Race 7)
This was mission impossible from the run she had.
She settled last in a race where that was never going to be ideal, was spotting them a big start on the bend and then had to come widest in the straight. Despite all that, she really attacked the line late and did exactly what you want to see from a blackbooker – hit the line like a horse crying out for a better set-up.
With a kinder gate or a race run at a stronger tempo, she’s more than capable of turning the tables.
She’s a winner next time with even luck.
