Thank goodness for Doomben, it was very good to us over the last week, always a track I have more success on than Eagle Farm over the road.

There were two key meetings in Queensland last week: Doomben (Friday) and Eagle Farm (Saturday).

Rail was out a long way at Doomben on Friday. and it was an advantage to be somewhere near the speed.

Eagle Farm on Saturday it was an advantage to be coming wider, especially later in the day. You have to forgive a few horses who were forced back to the inside rail where it was inferior.

Here are some horses to follow from the week that was in Brisbane.

STEIN (Doomben Race 3) – She was on debut and probably a silly price, the $2.90, to be honest. Trials had been good and stable going well, but it’s just not easy winning anywhere on debut, let alone in town. Everything about this just said she will learn from the experience and be better for it. Might also like a bigger track to balance up.

HOT MAJESTY (Doomben Race 6) – Joined Gollan from the Hayes boys and was $8-$6 late. Got back and when he went to make his run he was chopped in half. Somehow he picked up late and was strong through the line. Clearly the unlucky runner and off this run you’d expect him to win a couple up here for sure.

MOONAN QUARTZ (Doomben Race 6) – Was on him at $51 two runs ago and he was enormous to finish 4th. Come up $31 again here and was brave after going at a hot tempo throughout (-7.6 above avg to 600m). Just needs a race where he can control it a bit better or could even find a weaker CL1 at one of the coasts.

SCRIPTED (Eagle Farm Race 4) – I have friends in this horse and she has promised to be a star. Had to land last in this and had a huge task. Liked the fact Andrew Mallyon got her to the outside and then she let down like a good one. Been off the scene a long time and can only improve off this.

SNITZANOVA (Eagle Farm Race 7) – I thought we were home at $26 here. Hopefully some Betsy punters got some of the $1100 trifecta. She is a very good horse and the price was ridiculous. They must have simply thought she’d need the run and improve off it. She will do just that, can win a nice race soon and will be timed to the minute by this stable.

FORGIVE – Star Of Jamaica (Eagle Farm Race 3): I was not on this horse but the effort was amazing on debut. Missed the start and they drove up underneath like a motorbike. Huge fan of Huxtable but I hated seeing this. You had an opportunity to teach the horse something, find a back, try to settle and let down late. Instead, they have just revved the guts out of him and taught him nothing. He looks a good one and you just have to forgive the run to a degree.
