Group 1 glory and a punting windfall

Globe lands Group 1 win and $51 betting bonanza for Roll The Dice owners

Owning a winner is even better you’ve backed it a huge odds. Especially in a Group 1.

And the Roll The Dice crew absolutely cleaned up on their star Globe, who took out the Group 1 Might and Power Stakes.

There was $51 available for Globe after the Turnbull last Saturday when the field for the Might and Power started to take shape.

Globe was the forgotten horse of the field – with attention solely on star mare Treasurethe Moment – but the big ownership group were quietly confident.

So, they leaned into early markets, taking the $51 on offer.

So naturally there was a massive roar when the 7-year-old gelding won the four horse race – obviously for the win, and no doubt for the collect.

“So what happened was when the Turnbull ran, all the corporates still had $51 available. Some of the owners also got $14 to place, in an all-in market,” owner Rob Norton told Betsy.

“It’s amazing.”

“Look to [trainer] Mick Price’s credit, he wasn’t sure whether we’ll go to the Toorak, the Might and Power or the Hill Stakes. But it had a gallop the reverse way during the week and leaned in.”

“So it’s hard – do you go two weeks into a Caulfield cup, three weeks into Cox Plate? Then we decided on today.”

“So we all jumped in and we got $51, it’s amazing.”

The beers will flow freely tonight 🍻

And the rest is history – with a large cohort of winners delivering the loudest roar of the day.

Ironically, Blake Shinn has a history in big races with some of Globe’s owners – he beat some their horses in this year’s Darwin Cup.

Shinn had his own plan to navigate the small field according to Norton – let the horse roll.

“He is a free-rolling horse. We’ve seen it a few times now where in these small fields it becomes quite tactical and maybe it favours your on-pace horses. There’s no doubt today you want to be on speed and that helps,” Norton said.

And what did Blake say when he returned to scales?

“He told me we pulled it off,” Norton smiled, who also took a moment to pay tribute to Warren Huntly, who passed away during the week.

“I just want to say a couple of things –  I just want to say thank you to Warren Huntly and his family. Warren owned horses with us. My dad worked with Warren. I hope people find some peace,” he told Betsy, also paying tribute to Huntly’s good mate Deane Lester.

“I want to say to Leanne [Deane’s wife], Deane Lester is in this horse. So I just want to say thanks to Leanne and Dean.”
