The McEvoy stables are set for a return to Flemington

Tony McEvoy is making a homecoming to Flemington, securing Chris Waller’s former stables ahead of the new racing season starting August 1. He and his son Calvin will re-establish their presence at racing’s premier venue as part of a strategic shake-up of their training operations.

“This isn’t an expansion—it’s a calculated restructure,” the McEvoys said in a statement. “Our aim is to refine the way we train and prepare our horses, and Flemington gives us the platform to do just that.”

The new 31-box stable will complement their primary base in Ballarat, a facility prized for its rural calm, hill gallops, and advanced woodchip track. By blending country and city settings, the team hopes to improve equine development and extend horses’ racing campaigns.

“Routine variety is vital to keeping our horses stimulated and at their best,” the McEvoys noted.

Tony McEvoy, who has enjoyed Group 1 success at Flemington both independently and during his time at Lindsay Park, described the move as a welcome return.

“Flemington has always held special memories for us. To be back at HQ, in stables that have seen over 50 Group 1 winners under Chris Waller, is a real privilege.”

He highlighted the training surfaces, weekly grass jump-outs, and proximity to Melbourne’s south-side racecourses as major advantages for horses, staff, and owners alike.

With preparations already underway to relocate horses, McEvoy thanked the Victoria Racing Club and the broader racing community for their support.

“Spring is just around the corner, and we’re excited to begin this new chapter.”
