Alexander Rae is enjoying a fantastic run of form of late which continued on Saturday at Caulfield as I’m Foxing showed her rivals a clean set of heels in the Mrc Membership Made Of Moments Handicap (1000m).
Despite having won her past three starts, the filly by I Am Immortal was sent out a $21 chance under Luke Cartwright and was far too speedy for a strong field of three-year-old sprinters.
Cartwright speared straight to the front and ran out a dominant 4-1/4 length winner over Street Artist ($6) with Farcited ($12) getting into third a further 3/4 of a length away.
Rae has been enjoying a good run in recent times with nine winners from 29 runners over the past two months and said it was an exciting challenge to have a filly with so much potential.
“It’s really exciting and a great learning curve from my perspective,” Rae said.
“I did everything in my power to try and get this filly to switch off and I thought the key to her is going to be holding her up and having her strong late but over the last couple of months, we’ve just learnt to embrace her speed,
“She’s a fast horse. I understand that there’s not many of them that can burn the candle at both ends, but she’s an extreme talent and her speed is very effective this time of year and it looks like the world’s her oyster.”
Rae said they’d let the dust settle before potentially looking to a stakes race in Adelaide next month.
“We’ve got the Lightning Stakes in Adelaide at the end of July, but she’s just done a remarkable job. We’re not going to commit to anything, but off the back of today’s performance, she looks like a potential spring filly.”
Luke Cartwright increased his lead in the Melbourne Apprentice Jockey Premiership with his 38th metro winner of the season, pulling four wins clear of Logan Bates on 34 and was full of praise for I’m Foxing.
“She’s got talent and she knows how to use it,” Cartwright said.
“She’s got a nice, high cruising speed… from about the 400 (metres) I just let her quicken and when she sprinted, she sprinted very well.
“A very good effort from her and a dominant display.”
