Sprinter Lady Shenandoah has snared a slot for The Everest.
The star mare is the latest to be added to the $20 million race, with Hong Kong star Ka Ying Rising the hot favourite, currently $1.75 with Bet365. Lady Shenandoah is $7.50.
Lady Shenandoah enters The Everest following a brilliant three-year-old campaign highlighted by Group 1 triumphs in the Flight Stakes, Surround Stakes and Coolmore Classic. She was unlucky in the Concorde Stakes won by Headwall, who this morning was revealed to have sustained an injury in trackwork.
The Chris Waller-trained mare has been one of the rising stars of Australian sprinting. She will race in the Fairway Thoroughbreds slot.
Hermitage Thoroughbreds manager Shannon Clarke said connections were honoured to have Lady Shenandoah competing on the sport’s biggest stage.
“We are thrilled to see Lady Shenandoah gain a spot in this year’s Everest,” Clarke said.
“It’s a race that captures the imagination of the racing world, and to be represented by a mare of her calibre is a great honour. We’re also incredibly grateful to Fairway Thoroughbreds for their support and confidence in Lady Shenandoah.”
