(8) PRE NUP was impressive at trials without putting a strong number on the clock, she then started a solid $5 favourite in a deep race at Ellerslie and got back and took a while to get warm, her best work late at the end of 1400m, the rise in distance and heavy track are a plus and finds a low maiden race to be winning.

Two promising types from leading stables go head-to-head in this maiden over the mile. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire (5) COUNTACH was backed in early and late on the jump as a debutant at Hastings, he was held up at key stages, once clear he was just ok to the line, suspect there’s more to come considering the money. (2) THE DARZI was specked at a price and improved significantly between his two race starts, snagged from the jump and home in good fractions at Te Rapa in a race that should prove a good form reference. Both lack the early speed to find a position. (6) NO MORE PENNIES is our lamplighter and in a race with no pressure can give a big sight at the odds.

Savabeel filly (10) SAVVY DONNA is extremely well-placed against the older horses coming through excellent form lines and now rising to a distance she can be competitive. Wide draw is offset by her lack of gate speed, dropping out and early and swooping late, provided this pattern is no disadvantage she is clear top pick and hard to beat.
