Race 1 – Mostly For Show
(Rebel Raider Series Final – 1200m)
Mostly For Show was the winner of this race but it was the manner in which he won that suggests he is worth following going forwards. Out the back for the majority of the run, he found trouble in the straight and looked no chance until taking a gap in the last 100m and exploding late. This race is generally one of the better form races that comes from Finals Day and he came into it on the quick back-up as a maiden who ran 2nd in a mid-week Maiden only three days earlier.
He is still a colt the Jolly camp thought enough of to enter in 2YO black-type races. Having now broken through, he may be able to go on with it and rise through the grades.
Harmonic Dancer is also worth following out of this race having stuck on well despite a wide run throughout.
Race 5 – Wiggum
(Gytrash Series Final – 1200m)
The Gytrash Final usually produces strong form references and thought the run of Wiggum in 3rd was full of merit. He got the right run to the inside which helped, but he isn’t known for handling wet tracks and generally flattens out second-up, which he was today.
Given how well he performed in the testing conditions and his strong first-up win, he looks close to career best form. He also has a good third-up record, so he’s one to watch next start.
Trials & Jump-outs – Eye Catchers
Strathalbyn – Monday, November 17
J/Out #8 – Extra Fling
David Jolly and Justin Potter wheeled out 3YO Extra Fling for his first official jump-out. Only over 600m, he began well and in the straight extended under little riding, quickly putting 5–6 lengths on the next horse. Expect to see him at the trials again next, but the way he ran through the line suggests genuine talent.
