Blackbook Summary: Morphettville Parks
| Race | Horse | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| R3 – 1000m Maiden | Virtual Illusion & Gin Explosion | Both debutants were excellent. Virtual Illusion circled from wide draw to win strongly. Gin Explosion raced green but stuck on bravely. |
| R9 – 1400m BM64 | Extra Hot | Flashed home for 3rd after being held up. Two close finishes in a row on unsuitable track. Big track will suit. |
R3 – Virtual Illusion & Gin Explosion
Following two runners who were on debut in VIRTUAL ILLUSION & GIN EXPLOSION. The easy runner to find was the impressive winner VIRTUAL ILLUSION, who looked to be up against it from a race map perspective drawn in the outside barrier, but got an impressive ride from Jake Toeroek and was able to circle this field and win in impressive fashion despite not looking well suited. But GIN EXPLOSION is another to follow, while she got a softer run on speed than the winner, she did over-race and look green at stages in what was a fast run affair, but she has still managed to be brave and hold onto second. This race was a heat of the Rebel Raider Series for 3YOs, I would expect to see both runners target another heat for this final on Murray Bridge Cup Day in 2 weeks’ time, VIRTUAL ILLUSION may be better suited at that track, but I would want to be following GIN EXPLOSION through wherever she goes.
R9 – Extra Hot
EXTRA HOT is a runner that can always be tough to follow for punters given her negative race pattern, but she has an exciting turn of foot. She has ran into third and did have trouble through the top on the straight between the 400m-300m marks before showing her slick turn of foot. That’s two in a row now where she has finished within a length of the winner, both runs on the Morphettville Parks track which generally would not suit her. Looking forwards to two weeks’ time, there is a 0-64 rating 1400m race at Murray Bridge which looks an ideal race for her at that track and her last win did come at Murray Bridge in a similar rated race. Based off her last two finishes I am keen to follow her onto one of the bigger and more open tracks.
Eye Catching Moments
- Richard & Chantelle Jolly rolled out well-bred debutant Common Interest at Balaklava (R2, Wed). Reeled off the 2nd fastest L600m & L400m of the meeting to win – city class horse in the making.
- Punters were keen to forgive Guru Warrior (Morphettville R6, Sat) who looked to land a big plunge in winning. Opened as much as $13 but crunched into $3.10 SP. Few punters likely saw the top price given the weight of support.
- Miss Sghirripa (Strathalbyn R1, Sun) – half-sister to SGHIRRIPA – landed a plunge. $12 into $4 before leading throughout to win by half a length for Shane & Cassie Oxlade.
Trial & Jump Out Eye Catchers
Morphettville – 23 September
- J/Out #3 Palm Of Jumeirah – Jumped out quickly and went into cruise control fast putting a huge margin on rivals here with out needing much of a shake up from the jockey.
- J/Out #7 Stryking Camelot – An unraced filly who we got our first look at. She looked comparatively big lined up against her rivals and had a very smooth action even well through the line, suggest she will have staying capabilities so may take more time to develop, but early doors looks very promising.
