AFL umpire and racing analyst Nick Foot has parted ways with Sportsbet following debate whether he should be able to hold roles with both.
Foot is a senior umpire within the AFL ranks, however he also has hosted a racing show for Sportsbet called Get On.
As a long-time racing analyst and podcast host for 2 Units, Foot and had previously had strict rules around his work for the wagering giant and the AFL.
Despite both parties previously defending the arrangement, Foot revealed today he would not longer work for Sportsbet.
Sportsbet, in a statement, said they made the decision to remove Foot ”following feedback” and that officials or administrators would no alonger appear in the wagering giant’s programming.
”Nick has appeared on our ‘Get On’ racing coverage in a racing‑only capacity,” a spokesperson said.
”Following feedback, we’ve decided to no longer feature any serving sports administrators or officials in our programming, to ensure clear separation from their official roles. We thank Nick for his work and wish him well in his umpiring career.”
The agreement comes to an end despite Sportsbet still having close ties to the AFL as a major wagering partner. The relationship is worth tens of millions of dollars to the AFL.
Foot’s racing products still have wagering company sponsors.
”My time with the Get On racing team is something I’ll always value. Broadcasting racing, working alongside close mates, and interviewing the people who make the industry tick has been a genuine highlight,’’ Foot posted on social media.
”I’m a proud horse racing and umpiring person and continue to share a passion for both. Playing a small part in the AFL is a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to serve the game with professionalism in my role for years to come.”
