An in-form NZ Trial Watcher takes a look at Wednesday’s meeting on the Cambridge Synthetic track.
Race 3: (R65 1300m)
Tempo: Above Average
The favourite (8) MISS MOET ALL is hard and fit with an inside draw and racing well but must be a query at 1300m, she also has to contend with two key speed runners around her adding pressure. Expecting (5) SHEZ SHAMUS to cross and lead, resuming, she trialled well against the open class at Waipa and has shown she can sustain a run, the 1300m is ideal fresh, first try on the polytrack. (9) SHIATSU bolted in running fast time here on debut over 1300m. Recent form just fair, a return to the poly and ridden with similar intent with one of the best Sam Collett puts her in winning contention.
Suggested Bets: SHIATSU & SHEZ SHAMUS
Race 5: (R76 970m)
Tempo: Above Average
Speed is good early with (5) KARYON and (7) CATOCA sharing lead honours. Topweight (1) VITTORIO VENETO resumes and holds a fast win at this course over 1300m when sent, doubt she can get across from a wide gate. (4) OBAN has good figures to be competitive and is drawn to get last shout, a habit of laying in under pressure but senior rider on to steer. (2) BRAZEN AFFAIR is supremely-placed at the weights after the claim. An outstanding record this course and distance with a fast finishing burst, wide draw no negative with her pattern if she’s kept wide and within striking distance at the turn, clear horse to beat.
Suggested Bet: BRAZEN AFFAIR
Race 6: (MDN 2YO&UP 970m)
Tempo: Above Average
A short course maiden lacking depth. Speedster (7) ANGELS BREW was small and weak as a 2YO but showed natural speed at the trials, debuted in a stakes race and was disappointing. Two Taupo trial wins to start the campaign and a quieter trial on a H10, in her latest. She is suited over the 970m first-up and can lead this field up and give a big sight at an each way quote.
Suggested Bet: ANGELS BREW
Race 7: (R72 2000m)
Tempo: Above Average
Backing the recent form and change in tactics of (1) LOVACI to handle this rise in distance, a mare in form, she went forward and beat up a moderate bunch at Rotorua two starts ago, in a stronger race last start given no winning chance when sent forward from a wide draw on a genuine speed and couldn’t get in. She stuck on bravely and now gets a soft draw stalking a good tempo, should get every chance in the run.
Suggested Bet: LOVACI
