FOXTON TRIALS 04/08 (Heavy 9)
Heat 2 – OPEN – Catchweight – 850m (55.53)
1st – 5y g THORAX trained by R Patterson
2nd – 7y g AMEND trained by I Kelly
3rd – 4y m OH MAIMAI trained by R Patterson
Summary: “Good trial, small field, hard to fault AMEND and OH MAIMAI but it was the impressive work from THORAX catching the eye, looking to build on a good first campaign winning twice. He sat off and stalked the speed in this trial and chimed in late to score. If he can find a suitable R65 first-up, then win appears likely.”
Horses To Follow: 5y g THORAX
Heat 3 – MDN – Catchweight – 850m (54.62)
1st – 4y g OKAYCEE trained by I Kelly
2nd – 4y m KIBOKO trained by M Eales
3rd – 3y g DENNY CRANE trained by K Myers
Summary: “ILONE KELLY looks to have found a nice galloper by Darci Brahma in OKAYCEE. First trial. A big, strong 4YO gelding with a good action, Lisa Allpress rode and let the horse stride to the front and was able to quicken off the front and win running away. Keen to follow wherever he goes.”
Horses To Follow: 4y g OKAYCEE
Heat 6 – OPEN- Catchweight – 1000m (1.04.50)
1st – 4y g DANCING SHADOW trained by K & S Gray
2nd – 5y g JAEGER trained by R Patterson
3rd – 6y g PLATINUM ATTACK trained by L Latta
Summary: “Excellent return from the group class sprinter PLATINUM ATTACK, taken hold off after a good beginning, Bruno Queiroz kept the gelding hard up along the rail and the horse was trucking up under a big hold in the straight. This was a similar trial to the one he produced before winning the Pegasus Stakes first-up last campaign.”
Horse To Follow: 6y g PLATINUM ATTACK
TE RAPA TRIALS 04/08 (Heavy 10)
Heat 2 – OPEN – Catchweight – 1100m (1.11.20)
1st – 4y g EMPIRICAL trained by Richie & Ramsay
2nd – 5y m LEVAKIA trained by K & B Kelso
3rd – 7y g CYBER PATCH trained by C Cameron
Summary: “Huge trial from the 2nd horse LEVAKIA, the middle-distance mare put herself to sleep jumping from a wide gate and settled at the rear, she made up plenty of ground in the straight and did so on the bridle, it was an impressive return and she is trained by an elite first-up stable to be winning in the coming weeks.”
Horse To Follow: 5y m LEVAKIA
Heat 3 – OPEN – Catchweight – 1100m (1.11.03)
1st – 5y m HONEY BADGER trained by T PIke
2nd – 5y m PARAVANE trained by Walker & Bergerson
3rd – 6y g LUPO SOLITARIO trained by D Guy
Summary: “Two eye-catching efforts from both LUPO SOLITARIO finishing in 3rd and was cruising up in the straight, back from a short spell so perhaps some residual fitness, he recaptured his early career form this year and looked in good order ahead of some big targets this spring. Also liked the way CRACKERCOL worked home under a quiet ride at the back of the field, a typical trial from a Wexford-trained horse and one we don’t want to sleep on.”
Horses To Follow: 6y g LUPO SOLITARIO & 5y g CRACKERCOL
Heat 10 – OPEN – 3YO – Catchweight – 900m (58.60)
1st – 3y f SHIRASE trained by T Pike
2nd – 3y g WITH A VENGENANCE trained by Walker & Bergerson
3rd – 3y f FEMME FATALE trained by P & S McKay
Summary: “Quality field of 3YO’s preparing for their spring campaigns, SHIRASE is an unraced filly by Satono Aladdin and now two-time trial winner after taking out this heat, she’s one to watch ahead of a debut. Liked the way POUNCE hit the line after having a freshen up, she was a high rating winner at Ellerslie before the break and returned in good style at the trials.”
Horse To Follow: 3y f SHIRASE & 3y f POUNCE
Heat 11 – OPEN 3YO – Catchweight – 900m – (58.20)
1st – 3y g OUT OF THE BLUE trained by Walker & Bergerson
2nd – 3y f MISS JANET trained by S Marsh
3rd – 3y f DASHING DIXIE trained by O’Sullivan & Scott
Summary: “Two quality 2YO’s who appear to have progressed into their 3YO seasons. MISS JANET had a decisive victory over OUT OF THE BLUE when they met last start at Ellerslie but that didn’t tell the full picture, one was snagged and one was sent, which was the difference on the day. Both are evenly matched as shown in this trial, OUT OF THE BUE may have further scope on breeding, he was a good 2YO because of size and professionalism. MISS JANET has the positive racing style and that can see her win more races this time in.”
Horses To Follow: 3y g OUT OF THE BLUE & 3y f MISS JANET
